Any truth city fans had machetes ? Because I've seen some Derby fans saying they ran because of machetes ( hard to believe yet not so hard to believe at the same time)

That trouble today in and around the ground will have been recorded and the old bill will study it very closely. pick the trouble makers out and a month or so from now will be bashing doors one Sunday at 6am. Those nicked won’t have a clue remembering what may or may not have happened while the cops are sitting there with all the evidence.
Policing is very difference nowadays cameras record everything.

Only catching up with this now, seems there was more than the handbags I'd assumed at the time. That said for a grown up with a family, I'm still secretly a bit more proud than I should be that our lads came out on top. Yeah we have a few wronguns and nobody wants to see kids upset, but it's satisfying to see away cunts of any club come looking for it and disappearing with their tail between their legs

From what I’m being told is…

derby came for a scrap in coventry

derby started trouble outside and inside the ground

derby got the hiding of their lifes

You don’t come to a city the size of Coventry and not expect some return for you behaviour rightly or wrongly. This is rough, tough city and if you think your going to behave like a prat and not expect a response your sadly mistaken.

German bombers limping back to France was a quote I head of the derby fans today!

When I was going in to the ground about 1:30 some young Derby lads were going round chanting, they looked about 16/17 some of them

Unless people take machetes to the Cherry Tree, I'd suggest no.

Fair enough people complaining about their kids seeing stuff like this.....but I remember being at Maine road as a kid with the old man, was fucking chaos, absolutely loved it. Hooligans tend to target other hooligans, let them do it. The world outside football is a really fucked up place. A scrap up the match shouldn't upset anyone. Perhaps educate your kids what's going on in Haiti or Afghanistan, bit of perspective needed.

Didn’t the family stand used to be behind the opposite goal? Surely make sense if your lucky enough to have kids, take them to the family section?
Can’t moan about a bit of trouble when there is a perfectly safe stand at the other end of the stadium , fucking go and sit in there if you don’t like it

Not condoning it but that stretch would seem OTT and more ideological than proportionate to the crime.

Some people just feel entitled bloke 2 rows in front of us thought it was his right to stand because he had a ST.
we have paid to watch the game not his back wanted to know why he should sit down.

Dont blame them really they are not Ninjas.
In the 80s fans would fight police would wade in and then the fans would turn on them many would get sparked out.
Dont pay enough to be assulted.

Fighting because a fan wants to stand behind the goal? No wonder the atmosphere behind the goal was poor.

I did exactly this despite having a season ticket in block 16, doesn’t make it any better when getting back to your car and people are lobbing stuff about and goading police does it? Rather than saying “people with kids should stick to one section”, maybe adults should stop behaving like kids eh?

Yep, it is just a game of football.

Sometimes though, other "fans" don't think the same way. Getting cornered on your own by 15+ opposition fans isn't fun, but it's funny when they're backing of ya.

He'll go down for that. Don't get me wrong I love nothing more than seeing provocating bell ends get sparked out but when you advance 20 metres + over a designated segregated area and launch an assault you're not just looking at a fine and banning order, it's a custodial sentence.
Ask any of those who did similar at Maine Road in the FA cup tie 2001.

Wasnt behind the goal was in block 16, if you want to stand get to the back not in block row 10.
I have an old man behind me must be late 80s should he be made to stand because I have to just because of some twat infront of me?

Even more then.

Block 15 and 16 are clearly the blocks for people to stand up? I don't get why anyone would get a ticket there if you aren't standing and joining in with the atmosphere?

The policing is rubbish and there are some potentially tasty fixtures on the horizon West Brom, Blue noses at night, Stoke. Derby fans were allowed to enchroach no mans land which fueled the situation. The policy of letting riled up fans out together.
Years ago the old bill would have moved in dragged a few out which would have calmed the situation early.
As for those orange coated security guards do me a favour, well meaning but a joke.

And Portsmouth at home in the same year. Lot of custodial sentences handed down after that.

Although today was nothing compared to those incidents.

Yes, was in West Terrace for Portsmouth game and it did make for X certificate viewing.
Wasn't at Maine Rd but know it was bad.
Today's incident was 95% handbags and bad breath but for that one incident.
If that happened in the Burges at the same time it's a court appearance and fine but the courts have long since been lenient with footy related shenanigans.
*Not lenient

Because they wanted to cause trouble, you can see that from the way they start dismantling roadworks & grabbing pallets, you don’t do that if you’re lost

Bottom line is the reason people fight at football is simple- they want to fight. That’s why unfortunately it will never stop because if people want to fight they’ll find any justification to do so.

What I don’t get is why do this with god knows how many cameras pointing at them, would have thought there’ll be banning orders & doors going through all over the place after this
