Town fan here.

Our best performance of the season and a pleasant surprise. Definitely some parallels between our games with Leeds two years ago where we finished above them but they comfortably beat us in both matches. Think that’s partly because Cov are a nice style match up for us but I felt Lampard had an off-day tactically.

I was puzzled by the gameplan, particularly in the first half. The pressing was poor, with that really narrow triangle at the fron leaving loads of space behind in the midfield once we’d played through them. Possibly Hirst’s goal at our place influenced Lampard’s thinking with wanting a deeper defensive line, but it didn’t make much sense to put three players so far forward at the same time.

Cov being too passive in the middle was a theme of the game, both of our big chances in the first half should’ve been cut out. Rushworth was absolutely outstanding though. He’s one we tried to sign the summer we got promoted and it’s a shame it never got over the line. Thought DaSilva was a big miss too, from what I’ve seen he’s really kicked on in the last year.

On the controversial decisions, thought we got away with one a couple of times, first with the Furlong/EMC incident. Kipre on Sakamoto was a definite penalty, although whether that would have made much difference in the 94th minute I’m not sure…

You’ll be promoted comfortably. We’ll need an excellent January to be consistent enough to bridge that ten point gap and even if we do, I doubt Boro will as well. Get some cover for Sakamoto, one more attacking addition plus another midfielder and the squad looks very strong
I can actually see why the penalty wasn’t given (it was wrong - but i can see a tangle from the refs point of view)

We unfortunately had our worst game whilst as you’ve said - you had your best. Totally deserved the win. I’m frustrated that this performance has come against us…. It’ll even be worse when you get beat by Portsmouth randomly - which I think has plagued you all season. Random disappearances against sides you should beat.

lot of bedwetting on our side. We’ll go up with yourselves. I’m 100% convinced we’re better than the other 22.

I’ve also found that Lampard tends to get spooked by past results. We beat Pompey at their place - but it was odd at the time to switch tactically to a 5 man defence for the first time. You’ve obviously left enough scars against us in the cup last season and the game at Portman Road.

They got in our faces and especially Grimes. He was frustrated all night. They did their homework and it paid off
Frank allows teams to come on to us and gives them chances , hoping we'll score more than them but Ipswich were just too good and went for us from the start.
Charlton is massive now but I think we'll bounce back.

On the opposite side , they run right wings! I'm still not sure it was a stone Waller tbh. Given as a foul outside box everyday of the week but inside threshold is alot higher. I'd be disappointed if it was given against us as a bit soft tbh
If it's a foul, it's a foul wherever it happens on the pitch. You might be right on the threshold point but it's a load of old crap as far as I'm concerned. It's a bit like the ref not booking for a foul in the first minute because it's too early in the game or booking somebody for time wasting but then not giving a second yellow for the same thing as 'nobody wants to send off a player for time wasting' (particularly a goalkeeper). Too much over thinking; keep it simple, apply the rules consistently and everybody knows where they stand 🤷‍♂️

Exactly. Player gets sent off for two shit yellows then that’s on them. The anger at refs comes from them inventing their own rule set each game.

Totally agree!
