Have to say Asante is fucking bastard useless Simms made a better contribution than him by staying off the pitch !!!

wish he was on the next flight out !!!! He plays liek he hasn't got a fucking clue what to do as I said feckin awful
I wonder if BTA and Simms could tap the ball to each other more that 3 times without losing it

One thing i didnt understand was EVERY attacking free kick, torp needlessly ran over the ball (fooling nobody) for Grimes to take the free kick. Didn't matter which side or where from. Same routine every time. It fooled nobody (apart from BTA the first time made a run for a ball that didn't come). So why do it? It was 100% obvious to me what was happening and would've been 100% obvious to Hull too! If its that obvious, put Torp in the box. It's an extra head that MIGHT get on the end of the glaringly obvious cross from Grimes. Or, mix it up and have Torp hit one every now and then.

I think its because the defence is set up based on whether it's an inswinger or an outswinger and therefore depending on how they set up depends on who takes it last minute (granted the last minute dummy makes no difference)

Crikey, that was slow, ponderous and very…I want to say disjointed.

Seriously, I was expecting an 89th minute winner for Hull.

We. Need. A. Natural. Goal scorer. (Who doesn’t disappear like Wright does)

A new striker does absolutely nothing to solve that. It's the same shit build up that is too predictable. A new forward comes in and would look exactly the same trying to win headers against two massive centre halfs every week
It's a good point however (and I know it's a rarity) when we had Gyokeres he ran the channels and could hold the ball up. We don't have anyone who can do both and therefore we lose out in the final 3rd

Things that stuck out today;

- Surely either a penalty or a yellow for BTA for simulation in the first half
- Foul throws are fine now if you claim it slipped out your hand?
- Felt nostalgic seeing Kasey Palmer do brilliantly to hold off two men and get into space only to pass it straight to one of our defenders
- We still have no plan B against teams that are sitting back

Incined to agree. Though I’d still get a number 9 in and push Haji wide left and rotate with EMC.

Feel a better creative mid through the middle or a RW with better end product might be needed. But really can’t shake the idea that the tactics we have are just very easy to defend against.

Apart from the GK that was the same team as last season. It’s obvious that Simms has no future under FL and BTA isn’t a striker or left winger. That said, Haji isn’t a no9 either. With our captain doing his groin if Torp gets injured we’re relying on Jamie Allen. We need a decent end to the transfer window.

Agree about Haji off the left - he's far better there.
Disagree with original poster about a new forward having the same impact.
Neither Wright/Simms/BTA have a strikers/finishers instinct or a natural positional sense that a good #9 has. None of them can time runs into the box and none of them are a "static" handful (eg -able to be strong and hold off an opponent in the challenge/with back to goal/off a direct ball)
A good #9 is needed to suit our style of play.

When do we ever play the ball early into the channels? Our style of play is completely different now, we used to be one of the fastest teams going from one end to the other, we're the opposite now.

Don't see Project Crosstheball getting us promoted. Need variation and players to take responsibility on the pitch when a side is set up to frustrate us.

Taking EMC off and leaving Asante on was weird. Wright looked unfit. Dasilva played well, MVE played like he didn't want to get injured. Midfield was meh.

oh, and the away kit looks like we've got random stewards all over the place. Not loving it. Unvibes.

I watched on Sky. (Can't get to games anymore due to being a full-time carer for 'er indoors). I reckon it was about 20 minutes into the game that I predicted a 0-0 draw to myself. I was right, but so disappointed with such poor effort from the team as a whole. My MoM was Saka. Played his socks off as usual!

Wright is better down the left simple as. We are stacked down there unfortunately with EMC and the new Spanish lad. Simms has to play ahead of BTA for me. Although we do need another number 9 and an alternative option to Saka.

Just a bit slow / ponderous / predictable today.

1st game in, it’s Cov, we always start slow 🙄

Why the hell Lampard refuses to play him there I’ll never understand. BTA did OK up front but is beyond useless out wide. If you want to put Wright up front then Brau or another LW should have come on. But it should have just been a like for like.
He’s played on the left under Lampard and been absolutely shite tbf. In this system, he doesn’t suit the sort of winger Frank wants because he doesn’t play with inside forwards. So if Wright is gonna also be poor through the middle then we need to ship him out.
That being said, he’s had 15 minutes of a pre-season game and that’s it so likely is very very rusty

There is an absolute obsession with having to score from crosses, seen that with England too.
Unless you have a young Shearer, Dublin or Speedie type character to win the headers then its flawed….It does help if you can cross the fucking thing towards a blue shirt though.

Today was very disappointing. I didn't think we played great but first half it felt a little different, even if not successful. It felt like we moved it a little better and a little quicker.

What I'm most disappointed about is that the fans effectively gave up after 15-20 minutes. The worst crowd I've been around in a while and for an opening game... Shocking.

People say that they don't like the drum (not 'that' drummer and all that jazz) but without the drum. I think we could have heard a pin drop.

And for those that will say, it depends what happens on the pitch. It's 20 minutes in, of the first game of the season and we are silent. Literally silent. F*cking woeful.

This is what I fear this season, the expectation is at such a level. The players don't even get the first half of the first game.

Yes a draw better than last season when we lost 1-0 at Stoke.

Can we do a buy one get one free on BTA and Simms? Also could we stop pretending Haji is better through the middle than on the left... most the time he looks dire there.
I think you all need to get over the fact that getting on the ball more (because we play to width) does not equal better.
Lampard interviewed by American TV yesterday unequivocally stated he will be playing Haji through the middle and see’s him as a central striker for how we play.
He isnt fit, shouldnt have played, looked shite, lack of sufficient backup/competition is our biggest problem

You’re blaming the fans for that turgid performance?????

Felt like last season never ended and that performance was just a continuation of where we left off.

Need some new faces in to freshen things up, but expect we'll improve

Solid enough performance if a little meh I guess. But….

Seem to have carried on from last year with no goals and it not looking like our strikers will actually be the ones that score them.

Why does every attack and perceived chance to score a goal have to come from a cross near to the corner flag. If it’s obvious to us folks in the stands it’s going to be obvious to the opposition.

I’m also unsure whether we actually made Hull appear better than they were. I guess that’ll question will be answered in a few weeks when both teams have a few more games under their belts.

This time last season, we were awful at Stoke , with only Hadji showing up .
We were led to believe that we are fitter , stronger etc etc, so it was fair to assume a game of relative dominance, over an embargoed team , that survived last season, by the skin of their teeth .
What a damp squib, that offered very little to get our 27,000 odd fans going .
A great shame & 2 points dropped for me !

But that's what im saying, on the left or the right it was taken by Grimes so the defence setting up for in in swinger or not, it was predictable that Grimes was taking it. Every time. Either mix it up, or put an extra head in the box!

Not too downhearted about today.

We were in control of the match. Thought we were good for the first 60 mins but then started to run out of ideas, and Hull started the time wasting.

Saka looked knackered after 70 mins but no Rodrigues, and I think we now know for sure that Simms is not in Frank’s plans. He’ll be gone by the end of the month.

We need a striker and winger by the end of the month.
