Council funding for Ricoh Refurb (1 Viewer)

No. in these cases the argument is having the Commonwealth games in the Arena benefits local economy etc.
No-one likes it but if CCFC owned the Ricoh we would be thrilled with the grant and think it's not an issue.
It's a distraction from the real issues of what really went on with the rental talks etc. CCC quite happy for us to focus on this grant rather than the bigger picture.
What will be the benefit to the local economy? Think that argument gets pretty weak when you compare it to the economic benefit of a championship football club.

Looking at the history of the games judo plays such a big part this will only be the 4th times its been in the games. Last time was Glasgow and it was all over in 3 days and googling pictures from the event it doesn't exactly look like thousands of people were there.

Also the setup was a judo mat in the middle of an exhibition hall with a few rows of temporary seating around it, not going to cost millions surely? The funding document says its for a new convention centre and f&b improvements, neither really anything to do with the Commonwealth Games - seems like that has been chucked in as a convenient cover, as if they can mention games legacy and nobody will question it.

Guess we have our answer to why Wasps would be bothered about ensuring the council were happy.

How will the public know how much of the money went into a "refurb"????
......and how much went into propping the playing side of things up??....
Didn't realise a couple of mats and some temporary seats were so expensive these days!

The excel in London had a capacity of 10k for floor events. Last Commonwealth dint seam to have Judo but wrestling had a capacity of 5k

So you would say 5k max

CCC have been extremely generous towards Wasps to say the least.

Does anyone think that if the situation was slightly different CCFC would ever get the same support?

He didn't seem like it when him and Gilbert were trying to double team Pete about the indemnity though.

He will adopt the line on the Radio as an impartial interviewer but he adopts the "views are my own" generally on twitter

Have asked Jim O'Boyle what legacy it is going to leave for the tax payer and why that is needed for a few days of Judo.

just thought, that's probably the other side!
It is, looks like they're taking the stairs out. Might bid for the job, reckon I could knock a staircase down for a few million.

Although oddly in that sketch it looks like they've removed an entire floor. This is what that side looks like at the moment.

Think stairs are still there, it looks like they’re putting some kind of conservatory that covers it though! Goes from near enough where it says casino on the exhibition hall to the stadium.

i don’t think it would be worth bidding as they probably have a property developer in mind:unsure:

It would be funny if the guy who was trying to get planning for a hotel put in an EU complaint.

This is infuriating

The only plus I can see is that more and more people are turning against wasps in this city

Their attendances coukd fall to 2-3k perhaps

You're right, if you zoom in on the sketch you can see the stairs still there. Seems a bit of a waste of time to say the least.

How is it going to help the Judo? You would surely think they would have to up a business case forward for it?

Have the council got assurances that the money won't go into a hotel or a training ground?

Yeah, I seriously can’t see the point. Like Nick says, what benefit will this have for the Judo?!

Would be good to know the return it will give to Coventry in general after the Commonwealth games and how it was justified? Especially to take a decent chunk of the funding up too.

Any minutes from the council meeting where it was decided?
