Well it would make the panic buying of tissues and bog roll more understandable.

I wonder if that museum will want part of the jizzberg to put with its fatberg?

He said we will have to review this and be led by science. Did you hear that as a few months?

So someone I know(not in Coventry) has self isolated themselves because a member of staff at a school got corona virus and one of the students of that school(no corona virus diagnosis) may or may not have attended the same church as her daughter.

Seems a bit excessive?

Still not sure if this is massive hysteria or not.

I am planning to see my 90 year old gran for a meal in a restaurant tomorrow. I'm not going to hug & kiss her when I greet but I don't know if she should be leaving her house anywhere. Yes she is elderly but other than that she is a fit as a fiddle!

Perhaps a visit round her house for a coffee would be better...

Government advice is currently don’t change anything at this time. Sorry unless you have a fever or continuous cough then one should self isolate

Classic knee jerk reaction. massive over reaction to a runny nose and chesty cough.
Small businesses and sole traders will be put out of business by these politicians who are deciding to panic, at the advice of so called experts!
Wake the fuck up morons, it’s just flu!

Shocking.

More chance of being trampled to death.

I would have just turned round and gone home.

True but given that 650k worldwide die each year from flu and millions affected, then chances are that if you have a sniffle then its flu.

It’s believed it’s most contagious during the phase when it doesn’t show symptoms.

Don’t think Dr Chris will be going to Italy soon

Dr Christian Jessen says Italians are using coronavirus as an excuse for a ‘long siesta’

What's the difference between the outbreak of Coronavirus and the 2009 Swine Flu pandemic?

Seems like this time around the media have hyped things up and have caused a huge hysteria.

Actually the mortality rates are looking like the same, at around 1%, but the mortality numbers are likely to be different. The difference is in the rate of spread - SARS2 is said to be twice as contagious as H1N1. The other difference is that more elderly people appear to be at risk to SARS2 whereas a high proportion of the UK deaths for H1NI were amongst the young.

Swine flu is still with us - a person dies from it every day in the UK, though the other influenza strains now have a higher combined mortality rate due to the greater number of infections, in total causing the deaths of more than 1K young and old in the UK every month.

Plus the transmission rate, lack of vaccine.
Contagion documentary with Hannah Fry was on BBC 4 last night .
They modelled exactly this scenario .
A transmission rate about 0.5 lower than Cono
Unchecked 43 M infections @2% mortality circa 900k.
They ran a model with AFAIR a limited number of the population either immune or vaccinated ,that slowed the spread by about an extra month and brought the total case's down to 30M.
Pretty sure like our Boff's they've used Spanish Flu as the basis for the modelling.
Don't know how good the historical info about Spanish is really ,record keeping etc
Seems to suggest only 25% caught it @2% mortality.

Edit:- it came in three waves.

There wasn't a vaccine for swine flu until 6 mths after the first UK case. But I agree it comes down to infection spread.

Yes I saw that after looking it up again.

I was 17/18 at the time, what measures did Gordon Brown take to tackle the issue?

Quite quick then
Contagion on TV last night suggested 4 month's for a current outbreak.

There has been a suggestion in media that 20% of Chinese population have been infected.
Circa 270M
Potentially circa 4k deaths
I make that 0.000015 %
Not saying that is reliable but would someone please do the calcs to confirm my No's .
Applied to our reasonable worst projection without drastic containment
It wouldn't stack up .
The death total would be ridiculously low .
Ah well thought I'd saved us all the bother .
