There are always ways that you can keep your kids engaged with education. I have worked from home for weeks and have had to find ways to keep my daughter engaged, whether it's chucking iPlayer on for their decent stuff. Documentaries on Netflix or educational games if she has done all of her school work. It has been stressful trying to work, answer a work call and sort out what she was doing at the same time but it has needed to be done.

Yes, not every kid will have a laptop which is where schools should have opened their IT rooms up so kids could go in and use the computers for their work.

If parents have wanted to push their kids to learn it isn't all about a laptop all of the time.

Think I read that the DfE has ordered 200,000 devices for disadvantaged students but they won’t be ready until the end of the month. Schools did open up for children of key workers for them to use the IT facilities I think, at least they have at mine. Vulnerable children were also entitled to this but I’m not sure how many of those went.

Please explain how opening them too early and in a time scale that will mean that most can't reopen will save jobs?

What you are suggesting will actually mean that smaller pubs etc and non chain pubs will not be able to reopen and the jobs their will be more at danger.

The scared line is a pretty poor argument when people are just saying follow the science.

As with most things with education, the parents can't just turn a blind eye to it. They need to have input also.

I completely agree with that but in some house holds the lack of tech will be a genuine issue. Some of the kids in my form group have hardly been doing any work since April and though we have chased them for it by phone/e-mail there’s still nothing back. Can only do so much in the end.

I think any notion that this is going to die down somehow naturally might be more than hopeful

Yeah, they physically won't be able to submit the work through the system (Microsoft Teams) but parents can still be trying to keep up with their education if they can.

There are plenty of kids who just play out all day every day as if it's the summer holidays, that's part of the problem. Out of the routine of getting up, getting dressed and working.

Yang Zhanqiu, a deputy director at the pathogen biology department at Wuhan University, told state media he believed the new outbreak involved a more contagious strain of the virus than the one that hit Wuhan at the beginning of the pandemic.

This is worrying.

Maybe somebody should start looking into why it keeps starting in places like this? China need to close their borders, not let anybody in or out of the country.

It’s not a new strain, a new Coronavirus. Covid 19 never went away and opening up has raised the R number again pushing it back into pandemic. Could have just as easily happened in a primark.

Yeah, this is all going to hit in September because of the variability. It’s harder at GCSE and A level because parents can’t help as much on all the subjects and I’m concerned about what can be done for those kids in particular.

I don’t disagree with you at all, but there are still barriers for those that are keen to engage.
Some people believe that the responsibility for a child’s education lies SOLELY with the school, and it’s hard enough having to address this when school is open as normal - never mind in the middle of a pandemic.

You can serve take away ‘but it’s against the rules to consume it anywhere on or within
the Licensed premises, which obviously includes beer gardens and car parks etc.
A popular little pub near us is set just back from a beach top walk and opposite a public
green, they’ve just started opening 2 - 5 Sat and 2 - 5 Sun, buy you’re drinks and take
Them over to the green ‘must have been 300 there Saturday and 200 on Sunday.

I know one that’s been doing it for ages. I suspect technically it’s not a breach as it’s sort of away from the pub on an adjacent field

This is why CCC will need to amend the no alcohol in Cov City Centre outside of licensed premises by-laws

It isn’t a breach ‘we have been told we can do takeout, so long as it isn’t consumed
On the licensed premises you are doing nothing wrong.

A pub near me serves beer and coffee to takeaway, it has no car park or garden and is on relatively narrow streets. The pub can only encourage drinkers to disperse, it has no right to say where they go as long as they're off the premises.

If it’s part of the licensed premises it’s illegal if it isn’t it’s not, like most of the rules/guidelines
Put in place It’s all pretty contradictory.
