I mean he’s not wrong. Florida is well known as a retirement state.

We were told we were aiming for under 20K deaths, we now have more than that in hospitals alone, probably over 40K when all deaths are taken into consideration, how is that a success?

If we were told we were aiming for less than 20k deaths who was it that said it was our aim?

One of them things that is frequently quoted but never said.

It was never an "aim" or a "target"....it was the NHS medical director Stephen Powis who said if the UK could keep the death toll below 20K, we'd have done very well....

...we didn't....and so we haven't....

The quote is from Patrick Vallance on 17th March:

“If we can get this down to 20,000 and below, that is a good outcome in terms of where we would hope to get to with this outbreak.”

Ok, fair enough.....I watched Powis say “If we can keep deaths below 20,000 we will have done very well in this epidemic.” at the daily press conference

UK can keep Covid-19 deaths below 20,000, says medical director

......but your guy said it before my guy..... so 1-0 shmmeee

Haha not point scoring, just saying why people think it’s a government “target”. Both people are likely in the same briefing looking at the same data.

I maintain it’s too early to say who has done well/badly. Let’s see where we are this time next year.

I don’t think we will be cruising the avenue between good and bad, but more between bad and absolutely fucking catastrophic.

A well known adage is "Fail to prepare and you are preparing to fail." This seems to sum up the government's performance.

How Wrong Were the Models and Why? Obviously written from an economic perspective but I think makes reasonable challenges to the modelling. Interesting that Prof Ferguson was involved in the mad cow modelling as well.

Good that they've managed to obtain test results for a further 26k people yesterday. The positive rate is still about the same nominally.

The early pages of this thread make entertaining reading.

Take this classic. This is the guy who was condescendingly lecturing people on graphs and data analysis and ending his posts with #micdrop.

We're not on Total Lockdown mate. We established this a couple of days ago.

So you've made yourself look even more of a complete bellend.

Well done

Seriously though can we agree that we are not on total lockdown?

You can argue about what constitutes a lockdown and the various degrees of lockdown but we should all be able to agree if this us not a total lockdown.

I mean if we were in total lockdown we would only be allowed out to get food etc.

All we established is that colloquially the restrictions are referred to overall as "lockdown" and that you have a low reading comprehension as I hadn't even mentioned lockdown.

Maybe one day you will learn to be a bit more humble and then you will stop making an arse of yourself.

There out of hospital deaths situation is getting worse. The non hospital excess deaths will be a mixture of covid-19 care home deaths and people who needed to call 999 but didn't.

This is the real scandal now

You clearly couldn't grasp we were looking at a similar growth curve to Italy or why logarithmic scales were used.

As for you final sentence I think you need to take some time out from the internet.

We can agree on that at least. It's a scandal but the government have established such a cult following from Brexit I fear they will shrug it off.

If semantics is your hill to die on I think deep down you know you've fucked up. It's fine to be wrong. We've all been surprised by events recently. It's not fine to be a condescending prick to everyone constantly. Leave that to Grendel.

Germany on verge of reintroducing lock down measures as cases start to rise again.

Behind a pay wall in the Times but this is what I could see!

"Germany
The country may be compelled to bring back elements of its lockdown amid signs that cases are on the point of starting to grow again.

The reproduction rate, which measures how many people the average Covid-19 patient can be expected to infect, has risen back to one, according to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), a government health agency. A value higher than one suggests that the number of new cases will rise. Angela Merkel has warned that a sustained rate of 1.2 would exhaust intensive care capacity in hospitals as early as July.

The development is likely to exacerbate divisions over the country’s coronavirus strategy. Over the past week Germany’s 16 states have begun to reopen shops, schools, zoos and, in one case,"

Not good news.

I read 13 days this morning.
Try and check where .
Although the govt has been suggesting that it has been testing heavily there is anecdotal evidence arising that people who need to be tested aren't getting them .
That maybe because they've moved to testing in the wider community to grasp what the spread is .
Would that potentially disable the current count?

You were arguing we weren't on the same curve as Italy but two weeks behind so don't now try and pretend it was specifically about the type of lockdown.

Your Mum will be calling you down to tea soon so don't go getting yourself all wound up. Just try and be a bit more civil to people.

I was wondering if they were going to quantify that better or just hope people forgot about it.

This is what happens when you hash something together in an afternoon because you are getting criticism for not having a plan.
