Italy are saying tonight that in the 10 towns that were locked down 2 weeks ago, there have been no new infections today. So it is working. In the UK it will take months for the virus to peak because of the government's different strategy. They may soon move more to the Italy model on seeing it working,

If that’s true then boris can seriously fuck off, it’s like he’ll wait for half of us to be infected before he does fuck all

No they won't as it ended up with the Italian health service crumbling.

Yeah it's not working as it has spread to much larger places and their infection rate and mortality rate is skyrocketing. Their mortality rate is 3 percentage as their health service can't cope.

Talk that the Germans may just void the league title and not relegate anyone, instead just promoting and having a larger top division. Would possibly be a solution here but would take some logistics to sort out getting the Prem back down to 20 the year after. Although it has already been done once before.

Didn't the Argentinian league do that when one of their big teams get relegated recently?

Tbh looking around us, we either go the South Korea/China route of mass testing which is working or the Italy route which has spiralled out of control... we are worryingly heading for the latter

Where's the evidence we are heading for an italy type situation. The very plan is to stop that

I asked who was saying it was looking like it would get that bad.

It would take a spike like italy to knock the NHS on its arse but that is why the plan is to flatten the peak meaning while it maybe around for longer it doesn't all happen at once.

I don’t know who the experts are, I’m talking about the bods that pop up on TV,
I would say quite conservative estimates could cripple the NHS as it is that
Overstretched, of course though I’m only going on what I see and hear.

They will have no choice but to cancel any non-urgent treatment - Firstly to allow all available resources to be diverted to treating the virus, and secondly to protect their own staff - imagine the situation if they needlessly endangered doctors and nurses...

I was taking that article quite seriously until I saw the line stating that Italy’s health system is “one of the best in Europe”!!! Seriously where do they get these reporters from???

We have 5-10k already infected too so it’s getting to the italy stage without the death rate being so high

The season won't be voided ffs. There's only 10 games left.

Give us the title and be done with it.

Newly elected Boris with his large majority might just regret his limp response to what is a WORLD pandemic, it isn’t going to just go away, yet lock downs might have helped improve things in China and South-East Asia and now could be improving things in part of Italy. Boris’s obvious inability to lead is there for all to see.

It’s more likely for positions to be cemented as they are than games to be voided. Either that or some boffin could calculate expected points based on fixtures left.

As Jenny Harries the deputy chief medical officer today said that is topline planing and a worse case scenario the have modelled. To get that everything will need to go wrong. Watch her question session on the iplayer. It's quite informative.

You will see a steep rise in cases which is inevitable as it is a new pathogen and no one has any immunity but we seem well placed to flatten the peak.

That bit is obviously wrong then, but we should know with more certainty in a few days how effective their lockdown has been. fingers crossed

Why oh why did they tell people they’d modelled an 80% infection rate? It’s NOT going to happen. Does anyone seriously believe they’d let it get to the stage where 48 MILLION people were infected? Utter nonsense.

I think it's those so called experts that are driving the strategy. Hopefully they will re-think if Italy's strategy is working effectively.

What worries me is the fact that it’s gone from 500 confirmed cases to 5-10thousand cases expected, it shows that if it starts to get worse we could be on China’s level in a week or 2 still being 10 weeks from the peak

I can’t see the expected points to fulfil the remaining games happening. There are far too many variables involved in a football match and as we’ve seen this season you can’t just say a team will beat another team because of league position

The EFL should have no qualms, nor any other team a valid complaint, about us being promoted if the season's fixtures were not completed.

We are the only side that would still be promoted if every team were given either their best or their worst sequence of results to fill in for the games that were left unplayed while all the other teams were awarded results that matched their average points per game as it stands now.

We would be 15 pts clear of Rotherham with our best sequence of 10 results (W8 D2 L0) giving us 93 points to Rotherham's 78. They would be the best of the rest, but their best sequence of nine games (they have only nine games left) would be W8 D0 L1 giving them 24 pts to add their current total of 62 making 86 pts. But if we continued with our season's points per game average of 1.97 we would still come top with 87 points.

Even with our worst sequence of ten games (W2 D5 L3) yielding just 11 points would see us level on 78 points with Rotherham if they continued their 1.77 points per game average.

That is a significant difference that the bookmakers recognise now and would make a very strong legal argument should anyone try to cheat us out of our deserved promotion.

No it doesn't mate, China may have up to 200 million infected if the current medical view is correct. We would have to jubilee fro 10k to around 1,300,000 cases to do that.

I keep hearing the word “contagious” - as in, Boris should have put a plan in place by now but it seems to be taking the contagious
