But even those figures won’t be completely accurate. The closest we’ll probably get is comparing the total death rate (all causes) to the same time in previous years.

There is a lag there too, new case numbers per day are possibly inaccurate in some respects as they don't reflect when somebody was tested. While the rest of the country has pretty effortlessly switched to working from home it seems MPs need an extra £10K in expenses allowance to do the same. At the same time rules will be relaxed so they don't need to provide any proof of what the money they claim has been spent on. Can't see any chance of that system being abused.
