Just found out they've extended my contract until the end of June so I get 3 months furlough pay. I'll then be unemployed after 10 years service with no redundancy pay. Feels like a kick in the bollocks that I just drop of their radar after 10 years good service. I understand (I think) the reasoning behind it though.

Hey ho. At least my wife, my boy and I are all healthy and with the mortgage break, we can survive for the next 3-4 months and potentially save some more money.

Time to look for a new job or consider starting up my own sports accommodation business.

Life-changing.

I am very sorry to hear that, best of luck.

These schemes are a minefield.

I've been furloughed and it seems fairly straight forward to be honest
Couple of caveats but nothing to worry about. My work are also going to pay me 80 percent of my wage and ignore the limit so I'm pretty happy with it given the circumstances

Ouch! A like doesn't seem quite fair...

Any chance at all they'll extend beyond June? Or if things get back to normal, you get to put in place the plan you hoped they'd do before all this kicked off?

The govt are having to change the rules on the the loans, too many loopholes and its not working. Furlough is ok for the furloughed, but for the employer its risky & nobody yet knows how it will work practically as the application portal is delayed. HMRC will be auditing all applications and if they see anyone even as much as opening a work related email while on furlough they'll claim the whole grant back. Loads of admin in there too, very messy.

But like I said- would normally take a year to get this done and they have 3 weeks. And the fact that its straightforward for the employee is undoubtedly the most important part.

That's one of the caveats, I can't work in Amy capacity.
It's complicated things a bit for me because I was supposed to be on holiday from next week but I was supposed to be in for part of the holiday to help move a production.li e to another plant but HR have said I can't get involved.
Oh well, I'm.losing my job later in the year anyway so fuck em!!

How will they know if you've opened a work related email? Surely they'd have to have access to a company server to do that which as you said would be physically impossible given the time frame and the amount of companies that will be furloughing their staff. Realistically that's nothing more than a scare tactic if true.

Thanks gents and thanks NW.

My boss has said that we'll stay in touch and have scheduled a call once a month to check on updates. I can't assume there'll be a position for me in July though...whilst I know for a fact that there's about 3 positions from 60 in our greater team that are currently in need of filling (which I could do for all 3), I'm not sure if the structure in July will look like what it did in January.

I need to have income though post July so I'll put some feelers out on LinkedIn from next week asking about opportunities from July onwards and start a feasibility study into whether I could fly solo in the same industry (ie Sports accommodation).

Trying to be upbeat and think that everything happens for a reason. Just a bitter pill to swallow that I get no redundancy or any decent send off after 10 good years service, due a sh!t siutation. Like I said though...others in much worse situations than I though.

They should end the season now. Us and Rotherham are clearly the best two teams in the league and anyone not in the playoffs already probably aren’t good enough to win the playoffs either so just have the playoffs behind closed doors from the teams already in the playoffs.

Well given that NHS debt is just robbing your left hand to pay your right, I wouldn't give the c**t any credit for it.

I see the line on testing has gone from being essentially "WHO advice doesn't apply to us" to "testing is our top priority" after even the tory press gave them a hard time. The strategy of this government is being dictated by the press and private companies. A pathetic lack of leadership. They are still in election mode, just focus of refuting what the last bit of criticism was.

Disagree ROS, press briefing was probably the most useful they’ve done of late, more detail around the challenges and proper plan. Never been a big fan of Hancock but he’ll obviously (you’d hope anyway !) have a far better understanding of NHS challenges etc than a Gove or Raab. Giving the questioner the chance to reply has been useful as well.
