Well being honest I don’t think they’re needed at football full stop.

My only concern is that it ends up weakening our built-in resistance to infections. Not being a medic, I couldn't really answer how / if it would do that, and for how long however. I'm sure I could Google, but...

There must be data on that. Mask wearing became prevalent in Asia after SARS which was back in the early 2000s wasn't it? So there will be nearly 20 years worth of data.

Interesting that after SARS people living in the countries who suffered the worst were happy to wear masks in public yet here we struggle to get people to wear them at the height of a pandemic.

No, the answer there is to make people feel like they don’t have to come in even if they aren’t well enough by offering fairer SSP.

You would hope that this would lead to a move away from the culture of pressuring everyone into the office when sick to spread their germs around but I suspect that won't happen. The push from employers will be to go 'back to normal'.

If we were told that we could return to full capacity at football stadiums soon, but the only proviso was mandatory mask wearing - surely you would take it?

Club could knock out some of these neck warmers which seem to be popular with PL players at the moment. I'd have no problem wearing something like that. Its freezing cold most of the season anyway!

Everyone is a potential harbinger of disease. Whitty and Vallance have already said we're likely to have to go into more restrictions again in the winter. This isn't over, even with the vaccine.

If only there had been a bit more paranoia over Christmas...

We don't seem to learn. Before Xmas we had the scientists saying it was a bad idea and would lead to a surge in cases but anyone that mentioned that got the same 'you want to be in lockdown forever' line being thrown out now.

Not sure why everything has to be one extreme or the other. Its not total lockdown forever or a complete free for all. All that is being said is that allowing non-essential travel over the summer might not be the best plan. To be fair to the government they haven't actually said it will happen have they? Its just people making assumptions, and bookings, based on earnest possible dates in the roadmap.

Why would anyone look at what happened last year and say let's do the same again?

One minute we're point at the EU and mocking how badly their vaccination program is going and seeing rates and restrictions increasing but the next minute we're saying its fine to visit those countries for a holiday!

Yes, our vaccine program is going brilliantly but even if we stay on schedule it will be the end of July before everyone gets their first dose and that makes it mid October before everyone has their second dose (plus about two weeks for it to become active). Personally I'd rather have people having to holiday in the UK rather than risk going back into lockdown after the summer. I'd like to go to a match at some point this year!

I went to Crete in 96 and was there for the start of the Euros. I say I went to Crete, it was the middle of the night when we arrived, it was the middle of the night when we left so really I just went to Malia. Never saw Crete. Like all of Greece it’s the people that make it great for me.

Sold my British Gas shares to pay for our honeymoon in 1990. Stayed in Malia Crete.
Think there was maybe 3 bars, very peaceful place then. Hired a scooter and went all over the island, love Crete. Think Malia is a different animal nowadays tho.

I work a 4 day week, Tuesday to Friday.. I cant tell you the difference it makes in your feeling towards work and the benefit of having the extra day off.
The need to phone in sick just isn't really there, I don't mind working an hour or so over at all and I'm positive it's a more productive way forward for more businesses

I must say it’s hilarious seeing SNP politicians cling to the EU mast even as von der Leyen calls for banning vaccine exports to the UK. You know sometimes, even if it is just sometimes, Westminster isn’t the evil entity they claim it is.

The mental health line works both ways. There are people who are worried about coming out of this.
There is no solution that keeps everyone happy or safe but we can have a bit of empathy for people who are in a different boat to ourselves which is why terms like lockdown lovers isn't really helpful and bound to spark a response.

I have empathy. I have been keeping to the rules for a year.

Lockdown is doing more damage to people.

In the usual put it out there and see what the response is before actually doing anything it seems like we might actually follow the science for a change and not allow overseas holidays in the summer. Hopefully all those the rushed to book have ensured they are covered and won't lose money.

Covid: Summer holidays abroad 'unlikely', warns government adviser

There is a risk travellers could bring Covid variants back to the UK, a government adviser warns.

Every time they have the choice between being popular or doing what is right they flap it, I won’t get my hopes up. Lifting all restrictions in mid June should be enough for everyone

His behaviour on this thread is a disgrace. I can undersstand where the likes of you and Liquid_Gold are coming from, but he's descended to ridiculing experts and mocking the afflicted, before playing the victim when they respond. Imagine if I were to wade in two-footed on the mental health thread after he announced his diagnosis?

I wouldn't mind Cornwall though, never had a holiday in Cornwall

great place Evo.
Hadn't been for a fair few years myself and went to Looe last year in September and it was fantastic.
Got a place right next to the beach with a balcony over looking it, spent a lot of hours on that balcony early morning and late at night just watching the world go by, was fantastic.

As mentioned earlier, I managed a fine Brian Blessed style beard until last week. Now it's just a shadow of its former self.

But... grey tracksuit bottoms, grey T-Shirt, grey socks and a massive beard... it's the kind of person they try to keep out of Tesco in sink estates.
