If we do sign Chaplin I feel a bit sorry for him due to the way it’s dragged on. We’re all going to expect him to hit the ground running but he’s going to need to get used to our system, players and a regular 90 mins(much lik mcnulty). Still feel like it will happen but at the same time think we can only wait another week with the early transfer window.

He looks worth a punt. Good mix of goals there, off both feet too

Got off to a great start in their cup games too. Only signed for Ayr a few months ago so wouldn't be straightforward but then again in the Scottish lower leagues any fee wouldn't be crazy.

The Portsmouth team are big fans of the Winnall Sorting Office, I expect they were going there. Chaplin prefers the Post Office in town (WH Smith); I doubt he was there.

It's no wonder he doesn't fit in. There will always be that Winnall/Smiths divide.

No, but I must admit that it rips my knitting whenever posters put an "n" in the surname of one of the best footballers ever to pull on a Sky Blue shirt. Inexcusable.

Pretty poor but of a similar quality to a lot of last season's opposition.

*Gunnarsson.

You know what pisses me off more than bad grammar? People who cannot tell the difference between different countries, languages, or spelling of foreign names/places.

This obviously went way above your head. I'll donate £20 to their charity of choice for the first to get who I was actually referring to.

Who?

Now, you're doing it too. You'll be telling me next it's Stuart Pearce, not Stuart Pierce and Brian Borrows, not Bryan Burroughs.

Grrrr!

Coventry City boss Mark Robins admits his growing frustration at not being able to sign a replacement for Marc McNulty.

The Sky Blues boss has been trying to sign Portsmouth’s Conor Chaplin, whom he sees as an ideal replacement for the 28-goal star who has moved to Championship Reading.

However, Pompey won’t let the 21-year-old go until they secure a replacement for him.

City’s need for a prolific goal scorer was brought into even more focus after Robins’s men failed to score and rarely looked like finding the back of the net in a 2-0 defeat at League Two Stevenage.

Asked if there’s any progress in his search for another striker, Robins told CoventryLive: “There’s no progress what-so-ever.

“It’s clearly frustrating because we have got to make things happen.

“We have got to make sure we have got enough in the building to give ourselves a fighting chance and not sit back on our laurels thinking we’ll be OK because pre-season has been alright.

“Clearly we need that bit of help and while it is frustrating, it isn’t of our club’s making. There are bits and pieces and elements that make a transfer.”

Portsmouth boss Kenny Jackett has been trying to sign Cheltenham’s Mo Eisa which, if successful, would pave the way for Chaplin’s move to Coventry.

However, the Pompey boss virtually admitted defeat in his attempt to land the 25-goal star from last season after his side’s 2-0 win at Swindon Town, in which Chaplin started.

"We have got to make sure we have got enough in the building"- sounds worryingly familiar to something the previous gurning buffoon would come out with!

Yes we need a replacement for McNulty. But lets not panic. We need someone who can score 15 plus in League 1, not just a body in a number 9 shirt so we can say we have signed a striker. Every team is looking for strikers who can score regularly, it is not easy.
