I found her a bit annoying and in the end only turned on the radio during the actual match so I didn't have to listen to her. A lot of the time she speaks as if she's distracted doing something else. There seem to be long gaps between words and sentences take an age.

A lot of the stuff she talks about seem to have little to do with the actual game and more to do with other stuff like what the club or a fan has put out on social media. Maybe I'm just old and that's what people want to hear about, but I just don't care.

You can tell she is a supporter, but not in a fanatical way, and I'm sure she's great for an afternoon or morning audience just talking about any old nonsense. But she's not a sports presenter.

I've done this for years no matter who was presenting. Way too much filling time and the phone in is abysmal, although that's largely down to the quality of the callers.

The phone ins were a lot more interesting when we were a basket case. It was like an asylum sometimes on a Friday night

If you consider Alan Partridge to be "not a sports presenter", neither is she.

Lorna Bailey is not primarily a presenter, she is an EX-snooker player and is an unknown quantity.

With your avatar, it was impossible not to read that in a Fat Tony voice, which added to the menace.

The world has changed so much, just in the last few years, yet BBC local radio still somehow manages to be quintessentially, utterly, mid 90's.

If quintessentially means garbage then yes! Not that I’m an avid listener but hasn’t Phil Upton been moved aswell? It was obvious to everyone that he didn’t really like football and used to think that we were more interested in cycling. People think Lorna wasn’t great but one thing she may have over him and his bikes is her limited football knowledge when it comes to the Sky Blues.

The issue with local radio is the choice to starve it of funds . Most of the presenters are journalists and given the chance can be effective ( the round robin local radio tour that evicerated Liz Truss for example)

Problem is they have hardly any reporters so can only cover one story per day which they flog to death. The rest of the show is padded out with blatant plugs for BBC reality shows fed to them to “cover” centrally.

Having cackling idiots to create a Zoo format breakfast show is an annoying waste of resources.

Gurney has degraded the football coverage but the only saving grace is CWR is a one team station unlike the rest of the local stations nearby that have to cover all the Birmingham/Black Country teams.

Exactly there are so many talented podcasters out there for clubs now. Anyone of those for CCFC would be far more insightful than a BBC random presenter. Oggy has a good analysis of the game and would complement a new voice. Any suggestions?.

Yes, I remember listening to CWR on a Saturday Morning/Early afternoon as they were talking about West Brom. I think at certain times it defers to BBC WM.

I think Lorna will be a good fit for the breakfast show FWIW. Couldn't really take to Phil Upton.

I read his comments about that (on twitter I think), he said he was struggling to keep going with the 4am starts needed for breakfast shows so he's moved to a later slot to host a West Midlands sports program broadcast by WM, Radio Stoke & I forget.

Found the detail, that's another 5 mins of my life wasted but this is wasn't where I originally saw it, I can't track that down.

BBC CWR names Lorna Bailey for weekday Breakfast

Lorna Bailey is to take over the BBC CWR Breakfast show from Monday 9th March.

That guy who does the Match Plot previews, great analysis of data but with a pragmatic presentation on how it will impact games. I think you'd have him there to compliment Oggy rather than present, though. I thought Carson who did it in preseason was pretty good at that side. Although he did have a slightly Partridge vibe, he seemed to realise that himself-which is progress!.
