There are people on here with degrees :oops::oops:

There are. That's why 62% were happy to go into the season with Wilson in goal and Collins as back up. And why most people don't seem to think a striker who can score goals isn't a priority with Wright still injured and well behind on fitness.

Could Oggy play a bigger role… ?

Wouldn't say I can't stand her, Lorna is clearly an able radio host - But not for CWRs sports coverage and yes you are right, she let her emotions get the better of her when she did the Doug King forum to the point where I cringed with embarrassment

Having JD involved on top would also be a laughing stock, his only football credentials are reading the teams out at The CBS, I am not sold on Rob either

I personally think their coverage is going to be dreadful now Clive has gone

The BBC doing what the BBC do by employing Lorna Bailey.

He's had some health issues recently I think and also become a new father so probably best not to speculate too much and just wish him the best and hope its nothing too serious.
Agree on not speculating on his personal circumstances but It's very poor management if we go into a new season with a very weak commentary team when they appear to have jettisoned a seasoned pro in Clive knowing there were issues the season before with Gurney.

Listened to the build up pre-game and it was amateur hour!

Must admit, although Clive got players mixed up I wouldn't say he was "annoying".

Some of the others like Gurney and Lorna Bailey are just annoying and offputting.

Who did the actual commentary last night?

No one, CWR don't bother covering the pre season games I am sure

I sit need where CWR are. Lorna Bailey was def there, didn't see Oggy or any other familiar faces. Assumed there was no commentary and either she was just at the game or was doing drop ins for the news bulletins

Lorna may have just been using her press pass to go as a fan to be fair :ROFLMAO:

I was watching on Real Betis youtube listening to a very overexuberant commentator for a friendly

We tuned into cwr on FM - had commentary from Carsten Wishart and Terry Angus

Just google Wishart. Freelance BBC sports commentator from Brum so may well be Clive's replacement. His profile page on Muck Rack has a PUSB hashtag.

Commentary could be interesting:
Good at character voices too and accents - particularly Welsh, Scottish, Irish, Australian and general American.
Wonder if Angus is a temporary cover for Oggy or if Oggy is out. Or they're going with a four person team which seems overkill.

I think Carson ain’t too bad - he did the interview with Lampard and I thought had some good questions for him. If anything he’s an experienced sports journo and whilst he may not be a true ‘Sky blue’ like Rob and Lorna (edit: he might be? Happy to be proven wrong) he at least seems to be good at what he does.

Carson who was trying his best and is probably better in another role but doesn't seem to have the knowledge or the flow for a commentator - felt very last minute.

Lorna and Terry Angus pre-game were on for over an hour from 6 ; Terry was decent but Lorna just doesn't work . Anecdotes about her holiday and was pretty irritating IMO - feels like a daytime local radio phone in when she is anchoring.

Oggy was mentioned so does sound like he is back....

I was impressed at his interview to be honest

I personally like Rob's commentary and would be happy with him in that role going into the season alongside Oggy.
Clive added some impartiality though which will be really missed, especially after a game that we've lost

Clive also added passion - we could have been scoring from our own half

On the flip side, you would spend 80 minutes of the game thinking the opposition were about to score.

iFollow was a revelation in that sense. Clive would be insinuating we were in imminent danger and could see that we had actually only conceded a throw-in just over the half-way line.
