Was interesting watching Simms and then Awoniyi last night. Both very similar. Wright injured and Cherif needing time. I don’t see the first two getting many goals. When we do get chances we’re obviously going to need to take them at a good ratio. Is there a case for EMC playing there? At least until Wright is fit.

It would make zero difference in that formation, in fact I'd say EMC would be worse at it.

Simms had a ridiculously good goals to minute ratio last season and did better than most against the best defence in the league last night. Awoniyi is proven to get goals in the Premier League when fit.

Get Mason-Clark back on the left (huge upgrade on Thomas-Asante) and Rudoni in the 10 so whoever is upfront is less isolated and the goals will come. This is without even factoring in Cherif who has the potential to be a great impact sub from the left.

Awoniyi will be our first choice CF regardless of who else is available, and eventually Cherif will be given a chance off the left, and if he does well ge gets the shirt, he may be young and inexperienced, but he could suprise everyone with his pace and power.

You worry about Awoniyi’s conversion rate because he didn’t score in a 20 minute cameo against the best defensive team in the league? Ridiculous.

His mins/goal ratio for Forest was very good, keeping him fit is the main challenge.

Not basing it on last night. He’s not prolific. I think we should have gone for a real poacher. The clear priority has been physicality. But up front I think we’ve traded physicality for precision

Judging last night's performance, certainly a chance, but need someone next to him. Any of our strikers won't score if left alone, like that. Appreciate it was Arsenal away. I 'd like to see him and the forest lad, in some games, but not what Frank does..The young lad, is totally unproven. He may turn out to be a superstar. We literally had nothing next to the strikers last night, until Rudoni and Torp came on..Wright is injured, no other striker is coming in. Simms seems to be the scapegoat, even when most of the team were poor..Da Silva, 2 centre halves did well.

Why do people always bang on about playing 2 strikers?

How many teams in the prem play 2 proper strikers these days? Basically every team is playing 433 or 4231 with a handful doing 5 at the back.

I am confused by our striker strategy. All of the Openda chat and then we sign two strikers of a different profile. My guess is Awoniyi was a Haji injury reaction. Would not shock me to see another striker in and Simms out next week. There is still the contract question with Simms.

The Openda rumours were rumours and he was always an ambitious target. Cherif sounds pretty similar to Openda in terms of pace and playing wide too.

I don’t get why we’ve signed Cherif when we could have got Franculino for similar who’s scored bag full of goals and we’ve been watching that league as we scouted Yirenki

How do you know we could get him? In 2025 they rejected a 30 m bid for him and he is under contract until 2029. Danish Super League not the highest level either

Awoniyi is good business I think. There’s a risk in terms of fitness, but one worth taking.

Cherif looks very speculative, impossible to judge until I’ve seen him a few times. I hope at this price that scouting indicates he’s ready to play a good chunk of minutes this season.

I wish people could stop looking at our performance in our only game so far and think we're going to struggle because of it. Most sides will struggle against Arsenal. They put 9 past Leeds last season and they stayed up comfortably.

Arsenal were also just very clinical as they were v Man City. Anyone judging anything of the back of that game is foolish, there’s a reason the bookies had us at 14/1 to win. For context, that’s like playing a team 2-3 leagues below in a cup game.

I thought in the first 15 minutes we looked well coached and disciplined, then one mistake gets punished and the discipline sort of went.
