For a start Jones is miles short of starting games. Chaplin isn’t getting knock ons as he’s playing miles in front of the forward and shows little predatory instinct. Would you pay half a million for him?

Points well taken.

I would say that Jones has looked good to me in the cameos in the league so far. A fully fit Jones and Thomas combo will be brilliant.

I'm not going to write Chaplin off although you are right the transfer price looks inflated. In his defence, we're not creating so many chances and although we begin games with some attacking intent it seems to most on here that we go very defensive in the second half most of the time. To get involved he has to drop back to try and link up play. JCH was very poor today as was Hiwula i.e. Chaplin had no support or anyone to play off. Chaplin's link up play before half time today with Thomas and Bayliss did look very good. But you are right it's hard to justify such a high transfer price at this time.

Yes keep your head in the sand and pretend it's all gravy. Having expectations isn't unreasonable particularly in very winnable fixtures. It would've just taken some ambition today.

I know where you're coming from - I just think sometimes we're going to lose to teams like Burton (maybe Posh on Friday too, which I would hate - because I loathe Evans and Maddison) I know it isn't all gravy, but think having Sterling back will help us as an attacking force (P.S. I like gravy !!)

It would depend who else you could get for half a million

Chaplin is always far too deep. You've got to question whether thats the instructions he's been given by Robin's.

I love gravy too but to me surely the purpose of going soft in the last two games was to go for it today. But we get served another weak sauce performance and roll over against a very beatable side.

We should have just ignored the last 2 as they were for fitness and trying new things.

That worked well.

Approaching £1m he spent on Bakayoko, Chaplin and Hiwula.

It's too much to spend on disappointing players.

That's one of the biggest issues for me, and has been since we signed them.

We have many average players up top. None of those have been particularly inspiring for me.

Pompey said time and time again Chaplin needs to play with a big target man we don’t have that & for some reason we play him deep probably to help out with Doyles legs ou can see his movement is great but he’s being restricted sign a proper number 9 in jan and I. Sure he will do well...

Jayden Stockley please Robins

This is happening to often , why isn't Robins sorting it out.

Is because Robins likes to play safe.

Well MR still has my full support.

Yes he should take criticism and some of his decisions are baffling but his record speaks for itself.

Right man right now overall.

Watch him take us to the play offs.

What's the point if Chaplin is nearer to half way? We could have Harry Kane but if Chaplin is playing far too deep it doesn't make a difference.

Quite funny lose one game in 6 in the league and all of a sudden MR is shit.
People need to remember we finished 6th last season look at Notts County they finished above us and lost again in a weaker league.
We do need a decent striker to put away all those chances we create just a matter of time all will be good.
Bring back Stokes I say

Agreed playing him so deep is not what he’s about only have to watch thr you tube clips to see he’s a in the box predator I think Robins plays him deep to help with Doyle’s legs which is my point sign a number 9 a proper number 9 and play Chaplin with him simple stuff really.

Just got in.

Disappointing day. We look ok first 20.

Second half we hardly used the right hand side of the pitch.

JCH dint offer much today. Saying that nore did any other striker. Once agin played deep.

We need to use grimmer more for overlaps

Second balls we won hardly any all game.

Did we even have a shot on target ?

Is not possible to question the performances without it meaning you want the manager sacked????

No .

But if the fans can see it, why can't the manager see it and change it when it's not working.

Exactly, there is a reason why we win and a reason why we lose its ok to give ten pence worth, with out wanting sack the manager or sell a player after a bad performance

People need to be a little less critical because we lost one. Yes we were poor today overall after a promising start. There are issues with playing deep among other things but it's one loss after a good run and to an OG.
So lets get some perspective. I expect a far better performance next time out and sure we will get it. We need to tweak the squad in my opinion in January but Jones will come good and Sterling is a big miss. We are better than what we showed today.

Kane himself has been known to play too deep and therefore cease to be a threat.

Problems seem to be at the back. Too many gifted goals. Never been that keen on Burge, although he has improved he doesn't dominate and give confidence to the guys in front.

What nonsense. Only 5 teams have conceded less than us, and 3 of those are the top 3. 19 goals conceded in 18 games is clearly not the major problem! Burge is one of the very best keepers in this league, and has made very few mistakes this season (nor in the second half of last season). His handling and reactions today were superb (as usual) and kept us in the game first half. Oggy deserves much credit for helping him to develop over the last year.
Our major problems are our inability to control midfield for any period of time, our inability to create enough clear chances, and our inability to convert the few chances we do actually make. To back this up, only 6 teams have scored less than us, and 4 of those fill the relegation places.
You're obviously entitled to your opinion but I can't believe it's actually based on watching us play this year.

The first half was tolerable but we weren't in it anymore during the second. We never seemed to have the ball. Clearances, interceptions and dinks kept going to their men and whenever we did string a few passes together it was given away cheaply.

Our best outfield player was Bayliss overall, but three times out of four he would overrun the ball and tumble into a defender's legs - and he's been doing that all season. Maybe that's the step up in class between the divisions, because last year he'd often get his shot away or slip a pass in. Thomas was outrageously skilful at times too. Hiwula and Clarke-Harris were poor (Christ, that time when he turned infield in a fine position and wandered into a tackle) and I still don't really get Bakayoko, despite those two goals at Charlton. Chaplin looks alert, neat and involved but isn't getting into enough shooting positions.

The last few minutes pinned in our left-back area were terribly frustrating. Burton deserved to win - but I didn't think it was quite the disaster for us I've read about elsewhere.

The point is that chaplin is miles away from the other striker and trying to be a midfielder a lot of the time.

No I don’t and the abuse you have hurled at certain players is far worse than I’d even think of putting on this forum
