Mark Robins - Bung Marc McNulty a £100,000 bonus for last season and tell him you will treble that if he scores the same next season!
That should sort this out.
You can pay him out of the promotion money next season.

Tying down McNulty on a longer contact is imperative as there's no doubting he'll be crucial to next years campaign. Maybe it's me being negative but I can't see this happening and McNulty subsequently being sold on to a Championship club - potentially Reading, maybe another. Although it's true that our financial position is stronger than it has been in previous years, it's by no means strong. The illusion of the Maddison money has sparking a sense of hope amongst the fans but I do fear that this is a sense of false hope. We're still a player selling club, a £2.2 million (or so) cash injection doesn't change this.

Ultimately it will be the choice of McNulty's. Try and go for glory with CCFC and attempt at yet another promotion push, or further his career as quickly as he can by moving onto a Championship club. Robins will do his upmost best to retain him but the lure of playing in a higher division for higher wages would turn the head of most players. Could you really blame him? CCFC need to hold fast for further bids as I'm sure more will come but it's crucial that the board, Robins and SISU don't accept for anything less than McNulty is worth. Failing to replace players adequately in the past is a huge factor in our demise - so if he is to leave us, please please please reinvest the money. There's still 6 weeks of the transfer window to go, so Robins is going to have to brace himself as a number of last seasons key players could yet join McNulty in being subject to intense interest once the window begins to hot up.

Exactly. Bunch of scoundrels. On transfer deadline day they actually make shit up and then set a market on it on skybet.

'sky sources understand Thomas muller has had talks at arsenal'... Well let's have a look at the odds muller 3/1 to join arsenal. It's like tomorrow never dies, literally making up news to make money on it. The amount of times they've had a transfer line go across the screen then at 11pm never mention it again

Even if Mcnulty dosnt sign a new contract (and he probably would of done by now if he wanted to stay) we should keep him for the remainder of his contract, even if we risk loosing him for nothing next year.
He’s so important to the way Robins wants us to play, that we should just keep him and give promotion a right good go. I don’t see it as loosing money now, it’s more about investing in this coming season and having faith in this squad.

He’s worth more to us this season than any club would pay, that’s the truth. Who would we go and get for similar money that fits our style and scores as many goals?

I’d tell him if he won’t sign a new deal we’ll give him a bonus this season based on goals and wish him well on his way in the summer.

It's not quite as simple as that though. There's always risk if a player is denied a move that they will no longer be the same player as before. It happens every single season to one club or another. So then you're effectively left with a player that is no use to the team and a club is out of pocket of a transfer fee.

Absolutely true that it would to have to be quite some bid to out-rank his value to us, but you can't keep a player who wants to leave. Shrews fans will have a sense of schadenfreude.

If he did go mcnulty isn’t irreplaceable. But anything less than 1.5m is a joke and I would be holding out for 2m.

With 2m we could do a lot of damage with that.

I obviously want to keep mcnulty but just saying about the bigger picture.

It’s not Barcelona it’s Reading, every chance we will swap leagues with them next year.

And you think we could compete with them wage-wise do you?

That’s not the issue, the issue is he’s under contract to us for another year.
So wages are irrelevant.

From what Clement is saying, transfer price is sticking point in their business for a central striker, so if it is McNulty then I'm guessing the salary may already have been broadly agreed. None of us would be surprised, and truth is we would have done very well indeed to have kept him.

Right so your logic is no matter what he still has another year on his current contract so we'll be fine

Exactly, He goes nowhere unless we say so, and unless Robins has a replacement already lined up.

The replacement's already at the club, surely.

he's the 1 player i'd keep no matter what unless an offer too good to refuse came in for him.

I'm worried there's talk of the reason being that it's less than our valuation rather than just a rejection out of hand

If we could get 1.5 _ 2.0 million for MC and could pick up mo eisa for about 1million ! Who would go for that .

No guarantee he'd be first choice at Reading with Aluko, Kergomant, Barrow & Boovardsson there. with the likes of Bayliss, Jones, Andreu & Alessandri supplying him we could easily be top scorer in league 1 as well

It would be nice but realistically a ceiling of £1M is the best we could hope for, maybe a little more as he's still got a few years in him .

Would it be Reading putting this out or an agent?

Is Dominic Samuel still at Reading or did he follow Mowbray to Blackburn? A couple of million minimum plus Samuel and I’d consider it being acceptable. Not a great admirer of Reading, shitty little club who were in the Premier League far longer than they should’ve been. I remember them beating us to the La Fondre signing which led to us having to settle for bloody McDonald if I remember correctly.

We owe them a few hidings once we make it back to the Championship next year (assuming they stay up!), always remember them beating us when we were first relegated.

Contract extension talks I imagine will already be underway. We have to keep him at all costs above anybody else.

Having McNulty in our side in League One is such a big advantage. Opposition defences will be terrified of the damage he can do based on his performances last season.

If we inevitably have to replace him, we end up having a new striker who takes time to settle in and hence lose the momentum we have gained.

I think ultimately we knew approaches may happen. Depends on a few things. Can't see reading being a pull for anyone, more money or not. If a Derby came in we'd be in trouble. First day of pre season will be interesting

Suggests he's turned down a new deal and we are just holding out for the best possible fee

It will almost certainly be down to McNulty. We are on the up and he will know that he is under contract so can only go if the club accept a bid. Now that gives our club an issue, the fans are becoming buoyant with hope and optimism something thats not been around for ages. Dispite some good looking additions to the team selling McNulty could wipe the fan goodwill out at a stroke.

Obviously the best scenario is we keep him for a league one challenge. Hopefully the Maddison money will put us in a position that we don't need to sell.

He obviously will be offered bigger wages and I know theres no loyalty in football these days but surely Reading ffs that's a negative move we could be a division above them next season.
Have a word Doyler!!
