You really are a funny old bunch. I accepted the fact he was gone weeks ago, so would MR who will have already lined up replacements.

Can’t blame McNulty. I actually think he’ll struggle in the champ and will largely be used as a sub but good luck to him.

What's making you sleepy with that statement keyboard warrior? Do you not hope any transfer money received goes to Robins?

He’s averaged about a goal every 6 or 7 games since the December he played for us

The half a season of success was the exception - clearly not the norm

How can one half be exception and one half be norm? That’s not how half’s work. If it was 80/20 then you can use the words exception and norm.

Let him go if he wants it, we will be ships that pass in the night, us on the up, them on the way down. I will be interested to see if he can cut it in the championship, I have my doubts. It's all about who we replace him with, get that right and McNulty will be old news before the season is a month old.

Can't blame the lad, he has only 3 or 4 years left in which to earn the sort of money being talked about, unless he can kick on and make it higher, which he won't do by remaining at a League One outfit. He has to take the chance and Robins has to replace him.

He's 25

If McNulty scores 20 goals next season playing for Reading he'll be playing in the Premier League the year after. If McNulty scores 20 goals next season playing for us he'll be playing in the Championship the year after.

I'm not saying I think he'll do either of those things. But in his position, who wouldn't want to potentially fast-track their career? Especially as he's 25 going on 26. If he was 19 there'd be much more of an argument for staying put for another season.

Fair enough. He scored virtually 1 in 2 for Blackburn end of last season though and a lot of those apps were as a sub

Agreed. I don’t even know why it’s a conversation. He’s earned his leapfrog. If a player was scoring loads in the conference and we signed him, we wouldn’t have an issue about him moving up the leagues. People need to be more objective.

With the right team i think he can, reading were scrapping for survival some might be the ‘main man’. End of the day we cannot match his wages so all we can hope for is to turn a decent profit

One thing you can say for Robins, in all his time with us, he's managed to find us a goalscoring centre forward.

just pointing out a fact. and managers always have options, we had other strikers sitting around doing nothing for a start, loads of people were calling for pontecilli to start in his place... I think you are wrong & Robins stood strong on sticking with him , not giving in to the calls to drop him

I'd be happy to be proven wrong, but he is not good enough for the championship.

I hope we charge him for the ticket. The cancelation fee if flying with Ryanair will be the signing fee !

Not sure we'll be flying to Sutton?! Unless we're really going all out now we're back in the big time!

Pontecelli wasn't ready to start, he still isn't. Though he might break through this season if he gets a run through injury to others.

I mean is it worth making a cheeky bid for Armstrong? His stock can’t be high given that he’s not proven above league one.

He had an alright half season at Blackburn but hasn’t really hit the heights he did with us? Do Newcastle still highly rate him at 21?

He's on 15k a week we couldn't afford that

Realistically some Championship clubs nowadays are offering £70k a week wages because of parachute payments. The gulf between the Championship and League 1 and 2 is absolutely huge. Cant blame McNulty and the club have to ensure they get a decent price. The figure being banded around is about what hes worth. Just saw someone on twitter make a very decent comparison with Cody McDonald who had a very similar season the year before we signed him. Also in relation to Eisa a lot people talking about a '£2m valuation' - he will go for nowhere near that. This is just Cheltenham in a similar position to us trying to squeeze the best price possible. I don't think he will end up here... But wouldn't say its impossible.

He scored 28 goals for us and got us promoted he owes us nothing. Good luck to him think he coulda done better than Reading but we’ll find someone else. PUSB

Readings first ream wage bill is £28 million. It’s 7 times our likely wage bill next season

Indeed they did in season 2016/17, ours was £4.45m. It would be reasonable to expect wage costs in the championship to have continued to rise

the bottom ten clubs in season 2016/17 had the following wages costs
24th Rotherham 8.7m (relegated)
23rd Wigan 16.6m (relegated)
22nd Blackburn 22m (relegated)
21st Notts Forest 28.6m
20th Burton 7.7m
19th Birmingham 22.2m
18th QPR 27.7m
17th Bristol City 17.9m
16th Ipswich 17.8m
15th Wolves 28.2m

on average they spent 19.7m simply trying to stay in the division and that doesn't include transfer fees

It would be a big jump in costs even to Burton's level. Where does that money come from? How does the club compete with the wages packages it can pay when clubs will pay more and players expect more

A lot might not agree with me but ive always thought Mcnultys a bit overrated... dont get me wrong he was very good in the last third of the season for us some great finishes, but i always thought he found his level at L2 and isnt good enough a footballer to do it again at L1 level. Frankly i dont believe he's good enough for the championship but i guess time will tell.
We dont want players who dont wanna be here so lets get the maximum we can for him, sign Chaplin (if rumours true) get Andreu and Jones back who are both miles more important IMO and have a go next season
