Arsenal tickets (1 Viewer)

I know some Man City fans who genuinely enjoyed the calamity times and would go back to it. They’ll be Cov fans like that emerging soon as well, all part of the psyche of some fans. Clubs have a character for good and bad which it’s hard to lose.
Man City fans were always great at their gallows humour in the pre takeover era and kind of wore it as a badge of honour and I think now there is a bit of nostalgia about that era

I know a Man City fan who still says his favourite day supporting the club was the first FA Cup they won post-takeover against Stoke in 2011 as they had waited that long for it

Id be lying if I said I didnt have some really enjoyable times in L1 and 2.

But a full CBS trumps all of that. I'll be pissed off if/when we go back to crowds of 23-23k.

Depends whether we are on the way up or down. 23k in the year we beat Forest opening day was absolutely rocking, better than last season. I’d take that. 23k if on the pitch we become like a Stoke or Bristol City of recent years will be awful

What a start to the season that was!

It's amazing that we had c.7000 empty seats and the atmosphere was still amazing.

Edit: Just checked. Official attendance was 20,843.

I still remember the massive grin I couldn't get rid of all the way home.

I’m in this category. And I travel more than most. It’s just not letting enough fans have the opportunity to accumulate points. Hence the gap is going to get wider. I can see people entering the ballot and missing out 9/10 games so may only get to go 2/3 away games. It’s just not fair in my eye.
Well said Craig.
The entitlement of some on 'ere is off the charts.

Just because they've been on the bandwagon this last couple of seasons. Where were they at Plough Lane midweek when the "crazy gang" were smashing us on the park and there's a couple of hundred City behind the goal.

The people in the highest points brackets are probably the ones who were travelling to Boundary Park on a Tuesday night in League 1 to watch us get pumped 4-1 off Oldham

No they weren't, they weren't known as the Burts for nothing.

think the atnosphere has dipped the last year or 2

I've finally go a safe standing rail in front of my seat so maybe this year will be better

Slightly counter-intuitively sellouts don’t make for the best atmospheres. A slightly looser fill seems to make it easier for people to get more animated. That same season we were really loud at Norwich away, a bit of gallows humour as we were being easily beaten. We took a good following but there a fair few spare seats too. Since then we’ve sold out each time at Norwich and been very poor. Away support generally is now excellent in number terms but often mediocre in terms of volume and variety of songs

Don't say that theres regularly calls on here to extend the stadium.

The Peterborough Friday night game we won 3-0 sounded like a full house and there was only 20,000 there

That being said, Middlesbrough and Derby at home last season are the best atmospheres that ground has ever seen

The same old fans with 1500 plus will get the away tickets without needing to enter the ballot. Their points will continue to increase whilst the majority will fall even further behind.
I think it should be across the board ballot to the ration 1 away ticket in every 3 or 4 game so people have the opportunity to take in away games.

People who get tickets on the ballot will get points, then there's cup games etc?

I don’t think there’s much you can or should do about the closed shop. But if you asked me to compare loyalty of a continuous (continuous being the key word) season ticket holder of 20 plus years with someone with say 1500 points (and who I guess might have gone to say half the away matches over what has been a 3 glory year period) then I think there’s a case. Just a personal view
It isn’t a closed shop though…

There are clubs who’d sell out every single game without fail, we’re not one of those clubs and everyone can build their points.

I wouldn’t be against ‘bonus points’ for long-term STHs and other long service awards (specifically ST discounts) but if they don’t meet the points threshold, tough - you don’t get to go to big away games.

Just wondering? Do you think there is a link between current points and League 1 from years ago? Isn’t it 3 previous seasons and the current one?

There is not

But I would imagine a lot of the people who are in the upper bracket were also the ones slogging it out during the dark days, we had a core support of about 4/500 fans who went to all if not every game sun sleet or snow in the L1 days and I would imagine the ones who may no longer be with us aside, they are the bulk of the people in the upper echelons of the points brackets

I’d expect the highest points holders - 2000 plus - will be highly correlated. But it won’t be everyone and they’ll be a few younger fans in that bracket who wouldn’t have been old enough to go every week in L1. And some L1 regulars who don’t go as much due to family and work commitments taking over.

The point was more those people going in the dark days are the same people going now.

All this talk of systemic points hoarding is clearly nonsense. Anyone who regularly goes to games will note that there’s always familiar faces. There are 2.4k people 1500+, our average away support last season was 2.8k and that is the exact average of our away allocations across the league.

For it to be a ‘closed shop’, everyone on 1500+ will requires a 100% attendance and even then, many fans will get tickets in the ballot to bump.

Maths disproves the emotive argument it’s a closed shop.

Exactly. Ive got back from games in Yorkshire in half the time it's taken me to get back from Albion.

What do you do, design an algorithm that takes in to account congestion, transport links etc to work out points on a game by game basis?

20 points for midweek is an easy to administer arbitary number.
But it's on a Friday, in the most accessible city in the country.

How many people leave work Friday and go "It's midweek, so I'm having a few drinks to celebrate!"?

The L1 fanbase endured a lot. We were a basket case. However, there were some matches when fewer than 100 fans travelled.

The whole scenario changed over the years. One thing’s for sure. Small grounds have small away capacities. Many of those people will have had first dibs during that time as well (During the Championship years 23-26.) Fair enough.

As we progressed more people wanted in. I guess it’s fairer now that most away capacities favour more people?

We have never took less than 100 fans to a League away game in recent times I would be confident in saying that

The smallest CCFC away end I can remember being a part of was Sheffield United a few days after the Checkatrade Final and there could not have been more than 200 of us there

In fairness I cant get a train home after the game. I'm having to get a hotel.
Where do you live? There are trains at 23:00 and 23:30 to Cov from Euston after the game which in theory you should be fine to make - But unless you leave The Emirates 5/10 mins before the end you will be queueing for an age at Arsenal tube station after the game and it is all of a sudden touch and go

I am undecided what to do, I can stay at a mates after the game but I am tempted to drive down to Cockfosters or Oakwood at the top of the Piccadilly Line and just tube in/out and drive home after the game

But what the club have to do then is start assessing each game on merit.
Otherwise its either all Friday night games are 10 points or theyre 20.

I know this won't be the case in 2 weeks, but every Friday night game Ive been to has been an utter ball ache logistically.

Am I disagreeing with you? I did exactly the same miles in building up my loyalty points. I knew I needed x points per season to progress. Without that I would not have an Arsenal ticket. It wasn’t easy. Missed out on 25% and more games because I didn’t have the points. Then all of a sudden, this season it means that I should get a ticket for 80% of the games. Happy, yes,

Personally, whatever game it is for me Friday is weekend so 10 points. It was scheduled as a weekend game and it gets moved for TV to the Friday or the Sunday, then it's still a weekend game.

People just need to give it a rest.

The policy is the policy and applies equally if it’s WBA, Arsenal or Hull. No one questions it when it’s a shitty destination.

I genuinely wish people luck in getting tickets to games they want, ultimately, there’s no sympathy because you knew the rules of the game.

I disagree, but I do think it can only be 1 figure and that's it.
If they changed it to 10 its not something Id lose any sleep over

It’s somewhere on this forum. The point really, is that people could have gone.

You’ll sleep like a good un. 20 pts were added although there had been an error in giving people just 10.

I agree it hasn't been a closed shop up to now but moving forward in the PL it is likely to become so, as there will be no opportunity for persons to gain enough points through the ballot to break into the 1500+ grouping. It will be a case of waiting to fill dead mens shoes, with younger supporters who want to start going to away games unable to break into that that grouping.

Also, while not quite systematic there can be no denying there has been an element of points preservation at the top end by persons either looking to sell on their tickets, or in the case of Millwall last year, and probably Plymouth this year of buying tickets and not even attending.

Ultimately the club is in a no win situation though, as there is no obvious way of pleasing everyone, and the current situation is about as fair as they can get it I guess, even though I would like those that take up tickets with no intention of attending penalised in some way or other.

No, I’ll be frank, that was an off topic rant!

The reason for the disparity is because there isn’t a minimum requirement for away allocation. Clubs like QPR, Birmingham and more have restricted their allocations and others just have small stadiums like Oxford, Wrexham and Portsmouth.

Even still, a lot of our games still went close to general sale. People have had plenty of time to build their points, I was at PNE in 2025 when we didn’t sell out the 4k allocation, Blackburn the year before…

Someone on here does a spreadsheet of the away tickets, what points bracket they got to, etc. A couple of years ago 13 away games made it to general sale! So definitely plenty of opportunity over the last 3 / 4 seasons. The first away game at Derby last season went down to 900 points
Which is crazy really because I was on more and missed out! That was a lesson learned. I’d have gone of course. I also did plenty of long journeys against ‘boring clubs’ or whatever.

Me too. That Preacher man annoyed me. Plus the car parks of course. Bet you went to Blackburn this year as well!

That’s one game a season, it’s actually not the difference to being at 1500+ or not. Besides, the points system next year will be ‘reset’ somewhat because there will be plenty of people losing 500-600 points. Quick maths; I’ll be on about 1700+ points next summer as opposed to 1900+ this summer, assuming 100% attendance this season.

If anything, why not point to the people who bought 2 memberships for 100 points? That’s why there’s now 2.4k in the band.

In my 2000+, there’s been 3 games I bought ticket for and didn’t go. There was one instance I had no intention of going, another a mate asked if I had a spare and gave them mine and one missed due to traffic.

All the people I know on 1900+ may sort out a mate once, maybe twice a season but generally they go to every game they tickets for.
