Arena railway station progressing (1 Viewer)

Someone was telling me recently that there will only be one train an hour stopping at the Ricoh, potentially less at weekends. Anyone know if that's correct?

Apparently they can't add any sort of shuttle service, say from Coventry station to the Ricoh, due to the infrastructure on the line. Anyone know anything about trains? Does that sound right. All seems a bit of an anti-climax if correct.

I guess it would need a way for the train to turn round to go back wouldn't it, rather than go on to Nuneaton or whereever.

"The station will be suitable for six-car trains and for events a new ‘turn-back’facility will mean trains could provide a shuttle service between CoventryArena and either Coventry or Nuneaton. The station and Ricoh ArenaStadium’s control room will be linked to ensure effective management offootball crowds"

Looks like article written in 2011 mind you...

They go both ways don't they? (feel free to make up your own jokes)

"A service from Coventry station to the Ricoh had been planned every 15 minutes on Sky Blue match days - but with the club playing their home games in Northampton it is unclear how often the station will get used. If City bosses choose to stay away from the Ricoh, the new station may only be used during major events, such as concerts, when a service every 15 minutes is also planned."

The single carriage per hour would certainly not be suitable for the Wasps' fixtures, but may just be fine for us.

No joke.

At present I believe London Midland which operate the trains on the line only provide a one car train, and that the line only requires one stop at Bedworth and journey time is about 18 mins. So its down to logistic to operate 1 train per hour in each direction, with 12 mins each side to counter any delays.

When the new stations at Bermuda (nr the Griff island) & the arena station, this will increase the journey times to about 21mins - allowing for stopping at each station - this means timing will only allow 1 train at regular hourly intervals.

The line at present is only costly enough to operate one car train an hour. The hope is that these new stations will prove successful to allow the operator to put on bigger trains, or more trains.

The line will be able to handle more trains, its just down to profits for the operator. This line must be one of the least profitable of all as when there is a driver shortage, this line is the one that suffers - according to BBC Cov & War traffic reports.

These days its a lot harder to put on Soccer specials.

I'm not a train enthusiast but I'm pretty sure the trains used on branch line have the same number of forward gears and reverse for this very reason. The driver simply gets out and goes to the other end of the train.

One train an hour is a bit rubbish and potentially less on a Saturday? I would love to be able to get the train there rather than drive.

I bet the Wasps find a way of putting on a Rugby special.

That makes sense, I guess it just depends on other trains using the line then!

how about leaving a load of these at Coventry Station /Ricoh - a sort of 'Boris-Bike' scheme but for the railway?

Maybe we should insist that the visiting team uses them to get to the Ricoh!

Just get fisher and waggott one of those and a load of cattle trucks. They'll soon shift the pounds.

That picture also makes me want to watch blazing saddles.

There is a downside to taking an under 18 year old............you can't go in the casino !! This train will work nicely for me when I fancy a few sherberts on a matchday. As long as it gets me there about 1 and takes me home about 6 it should work well from my end !

Where we all drinking in town? Would be a good atmosphere with a train full of City fans en mass.

Anyone heard what the station is to be called? Can't have any reference to the sponsors, as they change.....so no Ricoh Arena Station. "City of Coventry Arena Station" maybe?

Some of the away followings in league one would struggle to fill that

And some of the fans would struggle to get one past Warwick Rd bridge.... (unless it was downhill, in which case they'd go past the Ricoh at 80moh before derailing and splashing into the cut...

They should rename the line to your username.

Don't expect anything flashy with the line the station is on. While I'm temporarily exciled in Bulkington I've been using it regularly. Trains are cancelled without warning and I've seen 3 actual fights. 1 with a ticket bloke.

This single carriage train passes right by the Butts Park, there never seems to be many on it, maybe they've been thrown off by the ticket man ?

Not sure if that line is single or double track. I've only been on it once and it was a long time ago.

pretty sure it's two lines but only signalled in the direction of travel - so the train would not be able to go the 'wrong' way (reverse). it would need a crossing put in bedworth side of the Ricoh.
