Really interested to know whether you think Trump was a good President?

I have seen you criticise Obama and Biden. I agree, by the way that Biden is pretty rubbish and ineffectual, but in my view that still makes him immeasurably better than Trump. Obama achieved a limited amount but in my view was clearly better than most US Presidents and at least tried to sort out the US health system that fails so many of its citizens.

I have never seen you criticise Trump though, although I accept I haven't read every post you have made, so I may be wrong on that. I just wonder, if I am right in thinking you have never criticised him, do you actually think he was a good President? Genuine question.

No I didn’t trump was a product of dissatisfaction in US politics and dissolution that the symbol for change bought very little change at all

Obama care has its critics

The Disappointing Affordable Care Act

The ACA has largely failed. Premiums and deductibles increased while choices declined. Exchange enrollment is 60% below expectations although Medicaid enrollment surged. President Trump's policies have been a dramatic improvement, but there are far better ways to spend $1.8T over the next decade.

We will see come midterms.
Democratic party never had a larger progressive faction (in modern times). Democrats now battling themselves as moderates take on progressives in the primaries for key midterm elections.
Progressives convinced their left wing brand is what the people want - election results seem to suggest otherwise.

I see the “republicans” are being emboldened by this decision. Now attacking gay rights and even black rights basically saying you’re next. Some clearly aren’t going to be happy until homosexuality is a crime and segregation returns.

Traditional republicans need to cotton on that their party is gone and start voting on that basis.

Texas Senator John Cornyn says "Now do Plessy vs Ferguson/Brown vs Board of Education"

Cornyn made the remark via Twitter in a share of former President Barack Obama's statement on the Roe reversal

Usually agree with a lot of your views but this is a steaming pile of nonsense. Issue by issue they are indeed popular policies even in unlikely places.

Even what you say on local elections isn’t true and in the cases where progressive candidates lose it tends to be where there’s a huge disparity in campaign funding. Trade unions are making a big revival over there too with the cases at Amazon, Starbucks and other chains.

Better yet look at Biden’s approval falling as a result of failing to pass anything on his ‘Build Back Better’ bill. The more it got watered down and the more it dragged on the more fed up people got.

My daughters just gone out to New Jersey for 3 months. They were going to go into New York over the weekend but were advised not to bother because Pride was onand they thought there might be some trouble or some sort of incident.

I don't think there has been but it just shows people are worried about what comes next.

To be honest with what that country's become I'd be reluctant to go in any case. Mass shootings every week and millions of people who believe batshit crazy things and who've got access to things that a Ukrainian soldier needs more. No thanks

Not the left but the socially liberal are basically the establishment over there, much more so than here. As always people see that as equivalent to left because it’s the same people usually. Yet another example of replacing left wing policy with social liberalism and pretending it’s the same. The Dems are basically the Lib Dems.

Isn't America a really angry place? It seems to be a society that has revenge as one of its cornerstones. There seems little compassion but intolerance and greed.
The UK isn't perfect but I wouldn't swap it for that.

Apparently some republican is now publicly calling for a Supreme Court ruling in 1967 that legalised mixed race marriages (you heard me right, mixed race marriages were illegal in the US until the late 60’s) to be overturned. WTF is wrong with these people.

One of the justices hasn't mentioned that in his list of regressive nonsense, because he's in an interracial marriage himself. So odds are that won't happen.

The Democrats had the chance to obstruct the last Trump appointment until after the election in the same way that McConnell blocked the appointment of Merrick Garland. Had the Democrats properly fought on those fronts they’d have another two justices.

This is the consequence of being either crap at politics or not caring enough in the first place. Though DOD with his cutting edge insight predicted that Biden would just expand the court. Still waiting on that

Out of interest, what was this mechanism you speak of that the Dems could have used to block the Coney Barrett nomination?

Well some of them are now demanding an end to the separation of church and state which is enshrined in their constitution.
Ironically the same constitution that they say can't be changed when talking about gun reform.
Though technically speaking they're probably more like the taliban than isis but they're definitely nutters!
