A lot of our goals come from out wide with the attacking play from full backs.

The diamond is a formation designed for full backs, it sucks the opposition into the middle of the pitch and allows full backs to get at the opposing full back in a one on one situation. A LOT of our goals come from that last season.

What was the last reply to this thread actually talking about the player joining us?

Keep checking in for updates, but it's flooded with pointless bickering.

Completely agree fella. Take your bickering to a different thread. Leave this for Barton please

Confirmed on Skysports now

Anyone had any input from a Preston fan on this guy?

I'm sure baker played CM for Stockport, and bell played CM for Rushdon and Diamonds early in his career.

Yeah, Baker played just behind the striker for Stockport and scored 14 goals in 4 months.

He was very highly rated as a youngster not sure after that injury though

I wouldn't read too much into that, they Paid 75 million for Downing, Henderson & Carroll.

And what's he done for us???

I hate when we live of past reputations. Most of our current crop regardless what theyve done in the past for other clubs, for us they've been awful!!!

If Barton such a talented player by is A) PNE getting rid and B) only going for 125k?

Hope I'm wrong but seems another castoff from a team in our league. Not the first time eh.

If he attracted some premier league interest it has relevance. I don't think many will have ever looked at Gary Deegan.

He's never played for us at this level, maybe he wasn't quite good enough for the Championship?

Read up on Preston's new manager and you'll probably understand why he's letting his better players go, the blokes a lunatic.

The fact they wanted him must be a good sign, so can be in the same category as Thomas. Potential clearly there, lets hope he can show it ( Fleck too for that matter ).

Getting rid probably due to his injuries...

Cheap 'cause you don't pay full price for a dented washing machine...

Live off past reputations?! Sorry, when has Baker lived off his past reputation?! Everyday on here it's "he's shit" or "bollocks player"! Somebody quotes a stat from when he did well at Stockport and all of a sudden he's living off past glories!!

Preston have been getting rid of all their players - Westley's made it quite clear he doesn't want any of them. Not all for he reason that they're crap, surprisingly! It pains me that people just cannot give players a chance and hav their mind made up before that players even put on a City shirt.

no judgement at all on adam barton from me but a couple of questions/comments .....

- the PNE forum is fairly mixed as to how they rate him (but not unusual for forums)
- surprised that at 21 he hasnt already been snapped up by a team at higher level
- I have seen reports of him being valued at 5m or 2.5m but we get for £125k ? is that near end of contract, because we are gambling with his injury, or was 5m just paper talk
- looks to me like we are taking a risk but risks are necessary in football to be successful (so unlike us though in so many ways)
- If, as i have seen here and on PNE forum, the guy is tackle averse and low work rate then perhaps he is a potential play maker - I dont think he is a replacement or even like Conor Thomas though
- I would recommend we actually see him play before writing him off

just my opinion

A triple leg break sounds a tad unlucky, nothing you can really do about that apart from pull out of every challenge - but then he'd be vilified (although, that seems to have already happened here!)

So Baker has 4 good months for a struggling Stockport and he's exempt from a slagging off? Anyone can produce form for a few months, doing it on a regular basis is what is needed!!!

As for PNE selling all there players... Surely they'd want to keep there better players!!!!

Preston put virtually all the squad for sale. I believe 17 have already gone.

Where did I say he was exempt?

Read up on PNE. Westley doesn't get on with anyone, he's bringing in ALL his own players.

Looks like Thorny is taking a punt on him coming good. He has had to talk SISU in to actually parting with some cash so he must fancy the odds.

Lets see how he goes before making a rash judgement.

Correct he sound barking mad. He said all the existing players had bad habits and told most to train with the youth team. He then signed Lee Trundle.

At 125k barton is not a risk at all. To be honest in a 'better' team he may begin to fulfill his potential, let's face it Preston have been god awful in the past 2 seasons

it is a risk if you have very little/no money in the first place and cant even pay the rent..... to pay out on a player that as yet has not played since a very serious injury is certainly a risk in those circumstances. If we had money then i would agree with you

Maybe this is the small percentage of money thorn has been given from the Bigi deal. Also the owners paid 500k for cody last season and the clubs financial state was as bad then as it is now. SISU could see it as a potential money making investment, bring barton in on the cheap, he then goes onto have great season and the club sell him for 1-1.5 million.
