Yes, three years in Alba, near Turin. Also visited all the places you lived in. Loved Palermo.
However, bot, living in Italy gave me direct insight into the nature and practice of hypocrisy.

I love Turin, for Italian standards it's a very cosmopolitan city. For some reason the northerners don't like it, i'm not sure why. ;) haha, fair play, the northerners are some of the biggest hypocrites I have ever met. Numerous times I got into arguments with them about the south...I ended up with una bella ragazza from the deep north, so I guess that makes me something of a hypocrite as well! :)

After reading a few posts on here this morning i am absolutely disgusted with the attitude of some of my fellow posters. How on earth can we as a city support this Wasps takeover? How hypocritical of us to openly accept franchise sport, something we fought so voiciferously to oppose. It is absolutely disgusting what has happened to OUR home, something i will never agree with or even crack a smile about.

We all stood on the hill to protest about a 35 mile relocation, Wasps fans have got more than double that to get here, are we forgetting that? Northampton Saints, Leicester Tigers and Worcester are all nearby, 2 of them far bigger clubs than Wasps. There will be no midlands fanbase and i doubt after 3 games only a select few will travel up from london. no fans, empty stadium and i for one will not accept them trying to reach out into my community.

To be quite honest it doesnt matter who is to blame for the takeover by Wasps, some people on here believe it is a good thing. Our city has its own rugby club, a rugby club we should all at least armchair support. I am dissapointed with the council, they arent acting in the best interests of the elecorate and not acting in the best interests of the city. They should focus more time in supporting the clubs they already have, rather than inviting franchise teams here. Im not a fan of sisu by any stretch of the imagination, actually on the contrary but they dont make decisions on behalf of the city. Stupid hedge fund people can afford to play games. I expected better from my local authority.

Ann Lucas - "a club should not be ripped apart from its community"

Welcome to Coventry- the home of franchise sport
'We should all at least armchair support'..............Was in full agreement of your post until you came out with that pathetic comment. Clubs need cash, do you not understand that, revenue gives them a chance to compete and improve !! How fucking Coventry, I'm sorry but it's true, too many in the City think that sitting at home without parting with a penny and looking for the results in the media is support !!

I know. Not blaming the fans but if only our support was at the level of our so called peers.

As for your high horse, I was perhaps being a bit harsh and never meant any offence.

No offence taken and Fair Play to you. Good Points well made. I think though that if they had known the Wasps deal was so close they would have blown the lid on it as you say, stirred up the shit. Things have been locked down pretty tight in the discussions given that Cov Rugby were in the dark and, something not asked but I suspect, that The Higgs side weren't even fully up to speed until late on, hence their delayed response. Maybe not though, we can play what if all night long I guess.

The facts remain. A commercial entity not related to Coventry in any way now controls the day to day operations and is the landlord of the home of our Club. There are no hard decisions to make about what side to support now in terms of wanting what's best for CCFC. It's a fair rent, the revenues on the income we attract to the Ricoh and political support to enable a future new build that the football club can own and enjoy the full revenues from - on the proviso that a business and investment plan is provided that proves this would work and not inflict (another) white elephant on the City.

I agreed with your whole post, up till this part. But your following sentence makes me agree 100%

Personally, I want CCFC at the Ricoh as I believe that is the only financially viable option (if we get access to matchday and additional revenues).

I'll support a new stadium, if it's IN the city, and they can say, this is how it's viable etc. But at the minute, I think another £20-30 million cost for some pies is not viable IMO, especially outside the city.

Racism in Italy was a real eye-opener for me. Makes what goes on here seem like play school.
Whenever I brought it up there'd be widespread reluctance to talk about it, most are in denial.
It was inevitable that Balotelli would end up back in the uk.

Is there a reason why it's prominent in Italy? History etc...?

Lots and lots of reasons; cultural, geographical and historical. Where shall I start? With a joke.
Northern Italians would say there are three areas of Italy; The North where you find Turin and Milan, then the Midlands, with Bologna and Firenze, and then there's Southern Italy with Rome. After that it's AFRICA!"

Living there made me realise that England is one of the most open-minded and tolerant places in Europe.
Most of them that I spoke to didn't even agree that Balotelli was Italian, most of them just called him a n!gger who shouldn't be playing for Italy.
Even being English I would often feel like a 2nd class citizen. I'd often give the Indian/African guys selling the trinkets 10E because I felt sorry for them. I lost count of the number of times i'd get into arguments with the locals giving them abuse.

It's a shame because it's a beautiful country but the ones with any intelligence leave at the earliest opportunity leaving the narrow minded idiots who have never dared to leave their town/city.

Still, it was always fun playing 5 a side against them and clattering them after 30 seconds. :)

Apart from the racism and disunity there's macho sexism and horrendous corruption.
Berlusconi, despite being up to his neck in it, was elected three fucking times!!
We've had political scandals here but its minuscule compared to Italy where the problem is endemic.
People moan about the Council in Cov, believe me, they're not born.

In total agreement, however I do not like rugby and never will so why would I go and watch it? That's what I meant by the comment. I am a ccfc season ticket holder so don't fucking comment on my support. After this franchise club making a base in our city you'll now see me at the butts with a rugby Union Haynes manual. Supporting my local sports teams

How will you do that while CCFC are playing at the same time as Cov RFC?

I agree, the sexism there is unbelievable. Italian women are some of the most intelligent in Europe, yet they seem to be kept in their place by boys posing as men. I honestly do not understand why they tolerate it, sadly this is probably all they know. My missus is a qualified midwife but there is literally no work over there so we came here. She has a friend from university who managed to land a job by sleeping with some old c*nt of a director.
The Silvio thing goes to show that Italians love a dictator, a lot of them will admit it and seem to have some kind of admiration still for Mussolini, or at least describe him as a 'good leader'. There is no way that people here would accept what they do, and they seem to think that we are strange!!
I'm not sure that it is worthwhile comparing the council in Coventry to the situation in Italy though. Or are you trying to suggest that everything that has gone on with cc if not above board? ;)

No harm in comparing to one of our EU neighbours.
Just for a bit of perspective.
If this had happened in say, Palermo the following would have been likely....

1) some councillors would have been set in concrete....

2) The team would have armed escorts....

3) Members of the judiciary would have been shot

4) every protest would have descended into running battles, tear gas, etc.

5) oh and Fisher wouldn't have had balloons tied to his car....

Back to the subject matter
Very interesting debate about both sports and franchising etc
The state our game is in where it's likely to go at lower levels, quite apocalyptic
Don't know what time it started picked it up at around 1.50
