I was there as well and saw both sides.
Hand shakes and congratulations at first from some of the friendly Londoners.
Minutes later I was in the wrong place at the wrong time and in the midst of a clearly pre-arranged punch up between the Legion and their equivalents on the other side. At this point I would love to say that I piled in with the Legion and held my own but I was on my toes and out of there - not my scene!

Well you must have had divided loyalties anyhow Danny

It was proper moody after, I remember walking back to the tube station....Spurs on the other side tracking us but they then clearly got diverted by it kicking off elsewhere. Was just lads milling around after, plenty of Cov stood around randomly. I remember a big guy going round at half time saying everyone meet outside etc.

It also nearly went off before but the old bill got there just as Spurs all came out of a fish and chip shop on a corner, clearly waiting to get battered, was a surreal day. Sunderland fans looking for it at Euston too.

After the game, passed some Spurs fans clinking bottles together, carried on walking through a park towards an estate where I had parked our minibus (I was the driver). I was chatting with a lad from Kenilworth (didn't know him that well, but he was on our bus). The next minute, one of the lads off our bus came running alongside and shouted 'run, Spurs!' followed by a few more City fans (off our minibus, maybe others too). As I didn't want to turn around and see what was behind us, I said to the Kenilworth lad 'just keep walking' (I'd had something similar at Wolves years before, and got completely ignored then, so decided for the same tactic (luckily worked). Felt very guilty that one of our 'gang' got caught just before the park exit and got a bit of a kicking off one bloke(not too bad, but badly shook up). We went over to him, and sorted him out along with a Spurs fan who was really apologetic for his fellow fans behaviour. The 3 of us (me, Kenilworth lad and mate who had got a kicking) then made our way onto the estate where our minibus was, and I could see a group of blokes milling around the minibus. I went into a nearby shop and asked to use their phone, to be told no (they didn't want any trouble). I insisted, and they let me - dialled 999,asked for Police and got Scotland Yard! Told them we'd been attacked and minibus surrounded. After only a few minutes saw flashing lights up by the minibus, so walked up to it, to be greeted by flat tyres, police and a few locals hanging around. The police were great - helped us change the tyres and escorted us off the estate. Then when we got on the motorway, due to our delay, we were travelling at the same time as the Sunderland fans, who had been at C Palace? (and gone down, instead of us). I was driving, and a few on our minibus were giving it large to coachloads of Sunderland fans (which was great - whilst the traffic was moving; less so when it stopped!) Some of our lot wanted to call in the Services for a slash, which I (correctly in my opinion) decided was suicide, so I pulled off at a junction so they could go in a hedge. Was glad to get back to Coventry (lived there, then) and get to the pub to watch Match of the Day and enjoy watching the rerun. I should have known it was going to be one of those days, as the first pub we went into for a pint at lunchtime had a weird atmosphere in it, and a girl behind the bar said that the night before it had been attacked by a motor bike gang armed with chains and machetes !

It was like a war zone around Euston with Sunderland Fans. Turn left out of the station and there is a pub which was full of Cov and Sunderland attacked it, putting all the windows through. Cov charged out and it went off big time in the streets.

That’s a cracker of a an awayday experience, apart from the poor lad who took a bit of stick.
Did you ever read one of my early threads on here ,'Your worst awayday '?
Which was the mid seventies cup game up at Anfield.
Apart from the adverse side in reality it was really one of the best .

I'll have a search when I get a chance mate. Missed that game - but a group of my mates went up (including my brother). One of our group, Big Pete (soft as they come) was about 25stone at the time, and fell down the terracing. Got carried alongside the pitch on a stretcher by about 4 St Johns ambulancemen, struggling under his weight. Got serious mick taken out of him by the scousers. He got stuck up there - missed lift back - and got a lift with some City fan he met in a chippy who'd been hit with a bottle. Remember my brother telling me it was hairy that night (was it the one where everybody got stuck in the fog on the way back?) On a side note, went on holiday to Majorcawith similar group of lads; Big Pete had shed about half his weight, then had surgery to remove his excess skin -looked like he'd been attacked by Jaws. For a joke he told this bunch of girls he was in a gay relationship with me and I spent half the holiday unaware as to why they were acting strange around me! B*st*rd!

Yeah that's the game .
Shit went off, but I used the same technique as you at Spurs .
Horses changing , little ten year olds spotting .
Got outside and they were pulling jacket zippers down looking for scarves etc.

Harry - as soon as you read that you'd parked your van 'in an estate around Tottenham' I knew there would be a bad ending to this. That's a brave move in itself. One of the most unpleasant areas around London - always felt relieved to get out of there whenever I saw the City play. As I said above, I found myself inadvertently in the midst of a serious pre-arranged punch up after the game; not your 15 year olds wannabes trying to look hard after watching Danny Dyer but the real deal. Blokes in their 30s/40s old school. I was in my mid 20s, 6' 2 and 15 stone but there was no way I was going to get involved in any of that. Speaking of Danny Dyer and his crew - can't see them calling 999 for a police escort - they would have never lived it down. By the way you did absolutely the right thing!

Yeh that must have been what this guy was on about at half time, my mates were gonna get involved but I persuaded them a quick exit might be better etc lol so they went along with me....

Was a big Legion mob that day.

There was a thread the other day about what to do with a Leicester shitty invite to a game - i have accepted an invitation to go to Derby ( FOC) on Friday night with the specific intention of winding up Sunderland fans - should be fairly easy with my Cov scarf on
