2 reasons:
- Haji can play that left-sided role as effectively as EMC in my opinion.
- It would have given us a genuine chance at a succession plan.
I just feel Kone was underpriced when you compare to the type of winger we’d be paying out for. RW and ST would have been my ideal.
Disagree, EMC is a much more effective LW, he definitely was last season.
Kone wasn’t joining a team to be 2nd choice and to be frank, Haji has been a real top end striker for us this season. BTA has started well and then there’s Simms.
Where we struggle is that we can’t change any wingers or a creative player like Rudoni without stifling the team. Eccles came on and did well yesterday in the context we were trying to hold on for a point. In a scenario Rudoni gets injured, we’re in trouble or playing a different formation.
The reason I banged on about wingers all preseason is because explosive players like Haji, BTA and EMC are all more susceptible to muscular injuries. Over a 50 game season they will get injured. Likewise, in-game you have 3 attacking players behind your striker that we don’t really have any subs for.
It’ll be top of the agenda in Jan so hopefully we can kick on and keep injuries to a minimum.
