Ive got that sap on ignore so I suppose hes having a cry again

Firstly - cant take a man who rides bikes seriously
Secondly - the kitman was spouting off to all and sundry for a lot longer than under Dougs reign. Does the name skybluebeliever on here ring any bells?
Thirdly - only about 50% of what I was told was from him. The remainder was playing staff
Ah skybluebeliever!

Sounds like you're about to lose Eccles too pal.

It's a good job you guys aren't FL otherwise the whole squad would be out on the street. We are a championship club and we have slowly but surely progressed over the last 6 or 7 years, thanks to MR and his team, and the team spirit that has got us thus far. The squad we have now is capable of challenging now for the top 6, has been proved by the last two year's exploits, and without major changes could possibly do even better.
Yesterday, and last week we sarted our pre-season and against a very eager Bristol Rovers team we did reasonably well. Andrewa and Brau played well but remember the opposition, and the occasion -pre-season. Andrews will be 19 next month and has literally played no competative games as of yet, but many think he is already the next big thing. He needs games and needs to get out on loan to maybe a Bristol Rovers or other like minded team where he can be a big fish in a smallish pond.
Many say about getting rid of Allen, Bidwell, Lati, Binks and Wilson, but they have served us well over the last few years, they are not suddenly bad players and they are a massive part of the dressingroom. This is the first season FL has been with us for. the preseason and I think he has been in the game long enough to evaluate players and their worth and contribution.
If we get another keeper in on loan to cover for Dovin that would be excellent because it is a weak spot but having Wilson as number two is also important. Jamie Allen infuriates me at times but all managers and coaches have stated he is a model pro, and i agree to their assessment and endeavours to keep him with us.
If anywhere we do some help it is the goal scoring department, however, I think our wingbacks/winger should and could get 20 goals between them, we have good midfielders with Torp and Rudoni who could get another 15 or so between them and that leaves our forwards with the task of getting 40 between them. is that possible? If they hit the ground running, yes. Do we need another 20 goal a season striker? Yes, if they exist for under 5 million. However, I think for that sort of money you would be looking at a Simms rather than a Wright.

You can't just keep Binks etc around forever though - so what if they've served us well? (Has Binks actually served us well tbh?)

Where did the Eccles is leaving rumours come from? He has played a hell of a lot of minutes in the three seasons we got to the playoffs twice and an FA Cup semi-final.
Last season he got injured and missed some games. He was brilliant when he came on against Sunderland before he got injured, as acknowledged by Frank.
I get Grimes and Rudoni are currently the first names on the team sheet and Sheaf has been one of our best players for a while, until his injury plagued last season. However, form dictates the team and I would not rule out Eccles, who should be reaching his peak in the next couple of years.
Football is a squad game now with minutes being shared between all the players.

I do get your point however teams have to evolve and change.

You can’t keep people just because of nostalgia or how well liked they are. You’ve got to improve as no one else in this division will stand still

Totally agree .
If we do want proper depth as is being said a lot on here then a midfield "deck" of Grimes , Rudoni,Sheaf , Torp ,Eccles and Pereira would be as good as many midfield decks in the league

Tom Collomosse has done a big Coventry transfer update on Mail+. Highlights here:

- Interest in Van Ewijk but no offers yet. Cov value him at £15m.
- Lampard wants a new striker (confusingly worded, he either wants a striker who can play multiple positions or a striker AND a 2nd versatile attacker)
- Haji open to leaving but again no offers yet
- Potential striker movement next week: permanent and loan outgoings
- Binks has multiple admirers
- Bidwell wanted by Derby

EDIT: Think he’s hinting at Wright being the permanent outgoing and Lampard wanting 2 new attackers if he does go

What do clubs see in Binks when scouting him ?
And I include our club in that question

What a surprise. The elite tactician agrees with the clever on here.

not surprised Bling is making him flog MVE and Wright to pay for them though

If we can “pocket £15m” for MvE I’d piss myself laughing and so would King I reckon.
A package worth that isn’t outlandish imo when you consider sell-on %s, appearances and so on.

Pretty sure people said similar things about Hamer and Vik in the summer of 2023 and we negotiated deals that compensated us sufficiently.

Hamer and Gyokeres were dominant match winners being the obvious difference

Both had 1 year left on their contracts so that’s why people undervalued them.

Pretty certain a lot of noise on this forum suggested we’d barely get £10m for Hamer, let alone £15m and a sell-on %.

We got our valuation because we stuck to our guns on the value of our players. MVE is a good player who will make the grade in the Prem, £15m isn’t an unreasonable expectation.
