Young keeper on loan and people are chomping at the bit to get going when we’re missing goalscorers

Why are people obsessed with strikers? Haji was the 4th top scorer last season despite missing 3 months. Simms has had a 19 goal season and BTA has scored 10+ goals as a lead striker.

We play with 1 striker and we have 2-3 wingers on the books. Sakamoto scored 4 goals last season and EMC scored 6 or 7? That isn’t nearly enough. There’s no game changers on the bench for when Sakamoto or EMC have quiet games.

RW/LW is the single most important area we need to improve imo.

We didnt convert enough last season that's a given .
Also for all the goals conceded it wasn't the centre back pairings fault a lot of the time .

We have seemingly addressed some of the defensive issues , Rushworth had to come in as we couldn't start with Wilson or Collins . And Brau and KKH , from limited viewing admittedly, seem to have been signed to strengthen a defensive weakness on both flanks . Would still love to see an upgrade on Binks but Thomas and Kitching are more than good enough as a pairing with the proper protection on the flanks .

I still want and hope Simms can become the striker that is definitely there but we need to sign either a loanee or a permanent to get on the end of the chances we create .

I genuinely think we are 2-3 players away from a proper push

Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş held talks with Milan Van Ewijk’s representative! Mourinho will start official negotiations after making his final decision about Mimovic.

I’ll get laughed at for this but I just have a feeling we’ll end up signing Callum Doyle. Can’t remember who said they seen Lampard with him in a hotel and if that meeting actually happened then I’m convinced Lampard could sell him the project. He knows we need a centre half and I feel like Doyle will want a permanent move this window. We obviously have some money spend too.

Stranger things have happened. Rushworth said he spoke to Lampard months ago…

We haven't got the clout to sign Doyle , hes way out of our league currently

Football fans are of course never happy with their team staying just as it is, but really we need better than Simms and BTA. If you could combine the physique of the former with the work rate of the latter…no upgrade needed
I wouldn’t write either of those players off. Last season was quite low scoring compared to other seasons for strikers. The top scoring striker only scored 19 and after that was Sargent on 15 and like Haji, missed a lot of the season.

The teams at the top of the table all had wingers and AMs who could get 15+ goal contributions. 12 of the top 16 players (Sainz, Gnotto, Windass, Solomon, James, Murphy, Antony, Bundu, Azaz, Fellows, Rudoni and Hamer) for goals and assists were AMs and wingers.

Between them, Sakamoto and EMC got 20 and from the bench only Paterson got one goal. 21 goal contributions has to be improved on. BTA and Simms with individually low numbers managed 15 goal contributions between them and they will be 2nd and 3rd choices come start of the the season.

Presently our GK role is similar to our striker role although it has changed with the signing of Rushworth. It was 1 very good GK and 1 very good striker. Both got injured. But we have so many goalscorers in the side we can just about get away with Wright getting injured. Our brilliant run last season was without Wright. But once Dovin got injured we went back to leaking goals again.

Of course it would be great to bring in a striker that knows where the back of the net is, especially if we want to challenge at or near the top of the table. The problem is every club wants to bring in a goalscoring striker. When they become available for whatever reason they normally cost a lot of money.

Of course we all want more but at the same time we need to be realistic. Maybe our best chance is a Prem loan of a promising younger striker. The problem is it could go either way. We could go for a foreign striker but would it take time to get used to the pace and physicality of the Championship? Could we afford to buy a striker proven in the Championship or above?

Wright is presently injured. He missed a big chunk of last season injured. We don't know if he is going to struggle for fitness this season.

As you say Simms and BTA's return was poor. Rudoni showed them how to do it. But we do need better if we're going to be serious contenders this season. That's unless Simms pulls his finger out and becomes the player he was 2 seasons ago.

Maybe we're waiting to sell someone like MVE to release the funds to bring the right person in. We're only a good striker away from being a very good side.

Simms needs to be moved on asap. I'm struggling to see why anyone would take him for what we'd want though. Whether we can ship one of them out permanently will probably decide whether we move for a loan or perm striker ourselves but I'm almost certain we'll do something.

Some of your posts make good sense but then you have this line you always pedal which doesn't add up at all. You're happy to have a go at the wingers for some reason while throwing a protective blanket over the underperforming strikers, whilst also ignoring Wright could easily be classed as a LW and indeed got most of his goals from there.
Mason-Clark and Sakamoto are far far better players than Simms and BTA.

Top trolling. Wright is growing himself an injury record and has interest from abroad, Simms is a timid little church mouse who couldn’t outmuscle the wind, we could do we moving him on. BTA isn’t a prolific striker to say the least and Bassette is nowhere near the level and needs a loan.

Yeah, I’d say we needed one.

We will get a striker and some people will be as disappointed as the Wilson fan club is about the new keeper.

It’s about the eye test for both players. BTA who has the energy and technical nous of a headless chicken, Simms who needs fire in his belly to perform but most of the time it’s extinguished and he coasts through games.

If Lampard can get Simms the work rate he needs while improving BTA’s footballing ability then great.

I got the impression the article meant, that if we don’t go up we’re in trouble and Doug doesn’t have the means or will to keep at it.
Yeah, I think that’s what I got too. Is that right though?
I’ve felt that we’ve got a ‘model’ that means it’s quite sustainable ie we’ve got assets we can sell if/when necessary?
I mean, of all fans we know it’s a precarious old business but it feels like we’re doing alright yeah?

I didn't read it that way at all tbh. We're fine.

It was all about 5 year plan when Doug came in, close to someone at club and they said all staff where sat down and taken through the 5 year plan, so everyone off same message.

we’ve got couple more years yet before king would start to get twitchy.

The club is already a far more appealing prospect for potential buyers if he put it up for sale now. Touch wood it will be even more so in a few years time

Totally agree.

The club was total mess in league 2 - non league standard at very best, even half decent Saturday team had better facilities, access to food etc etc. (people take piss etc, but god knows what’s happens without R Overson)

we’ve come so far, so quickly, and now so close to the promised land.

I do think that’s a risk. King won’t top up the budget indefinitely.
We have to remember what have had quite a cash injection last few years with Hamer and Gyökeres. It's not indefinite and we need to make the most of the current situation. MVE and Rudoni will be the next ones to provide that however we would essentially be a starting again

Well in the worst case scenario we end up having to sell a fair number of players, which is different to a few other similar situations where clubs gambled on high end loans then had no insurance policy.

King’s insurance will be to sell the assets and/or the club
