Correct. This Le Bris masterclass still irks me. Sunderland had settled for a draw at our place before MvE shit the bed, we then won in 90 at their place. They were lucky.
Takin' LePris Masterclass? We've struugled to breakdown sides that park the bus since Hamer left. As soon as we stretched them down the right we scored pretty easily. The MVE error cost us the tie but the weaknesses of the side are hardly his fault. I think Torp might have made a difference had he been fit but at least we can watch Sunderland blow £100m plus to get 10 points - £10m per point!

While Hamer was huge for us it was Viks ability to chase lost causes and drag a defence around that was the key to much of our success.
And while we've "never replaced" Hamer we also haven't come close to getting a striker with the desire and physicality of Vik

If both went, would give Lampard a war chest. About £18 million for them both?. Then minus £3.5 million from KKH.

Means you’d have £14.5 million to go and get a CB, CM, RW, ST (assuming Rushworth is done)
Thats a term for the other thread. "War Chest"

Hamer is a top Championship player, Vik is a top European player, there is no contest. We haven't 'replaced' either as individuals but we've replaced them with the sum of our parts, we're in a much much better place now and those sales allowed us to get there.

It wasn't about Hamer per se (or Vik for that matter.) It's a fact that we struggle agaisnt sides that put everyone behind the ball. It's something we have to learn to deal with. The build up play down, slow and down the right, time after time after time after blooming time. Maybe we were playing around Haji's tendonitis - who knows. There was a glaring difference between Lampard's Portugal interview and the statement from the USMNT camp the Haji had arrived injured so it's possible that he had been carrying it for quite a while.

I mean we’ve taken two seasons to go from finishing fifth then PO final to finishing fifth then PO semi. I think the jury is still out on if this particular set of parts can achieve more than Vik and Gus and the backup dancers.

Whatever though we’re still missing passing range, speed of thought and creativity in the middle of the pitch.

To be honest I’d like to see and expect us to actually spend more than just breaking even if we’re ambitious about going up

Exactly. Why would King sanction more cost when we’ve still got 3 left backs, 3 cf’s. At least 8 central midfielders and 4 keepers. We need to improve in certain areas but it’s a cash game now so it quite rightly should be one out one in from now on.

Is the pace hotting up finally? Vik money / Rushworth loan / Sheaf out / MVE out

Love us to lose a goalkeeper, get a centre half and buy this Peirera guy

Don't share the obsession with strikers

Think Lasse Berg Johnson would be a good signing, a box to box midfielder at Malmo. 4.50 accurate long balls per 90 with a 67% long ball success rate 1.48 chances created per 90.
Good in duels with 60% win rate on the ground and in the air.
Would attach a video but the only one there is has been privated! The other is from the 22/23 season so a bit outdated

Given what we’ve put up with over last 20 years, spending more than we have/gambling on a promotion just does not interest me.

Club should always be safeguarded / as sustainable as possible.

It has been said by others but this is my number one consideration for the Sky Blues above all else

Unless we are fortunate enough to be taken over by a ludicrously affluent owner who can find some magic way of avoiding FFP, it has to be sustainable. We have been through all sorts of shit even before SISU. King is the best owner we have had and is clearly determined that the whole enterprise is sustainable. More power to his elbow. And if we don't get promoted I am not going to worry that much about it or complain.

My only concern is that DK struck lucky in having two good player sales just as he arrived. We need to keep that up. Frankly, considering his injury record, if the rumour about Sheaf is true, I'd bite their hand off.

Oh come on, when those 2 players left we were left with absolutely fuck all. If 2 players left now we'd still be fine. The value of our squad and the overall quality of it is night and day. The club has its best assets secured to good contracts and is generally now talked about as a top end Championship club.
Maybe a certain Venezuelan will end up being the answer to your dreams anyway. Happy days if so.

It's all too quiet for me, I can't see FL being happy with the current squad as is. I still see a massive balance and depth problem. We need multiple players out and certain areas added too. Either we are waiting for Vik or Gus to drop to starts some incomings. Struggling to lose some of the unwanted, or FL is having to deal with the squad as we have no more budget outside things happening elsewhere.

Lets hope this week we do see some unwanted moved on and see at least 1 new face in.

While I get the 5th three years ago and playoff final argument , for me if we went up that season it would've been a car crash . We had an extremely thin squad lacking in real quality, barring the obvious two players .
Last season showed we have more depth to the squad and more quality , so if we ever made it to the promised land we are in a much healthier position to try and establish ourselves
Pragmatism can be frustrating but it's the path we have to keep on to be sustainable

We need 2-3 quality additions and a promising loanee or two

That Sheaf link looks standard X BS - wouldn't give much attention.

Hes just joined my local golf club, and moved in this area so not sure if that suggests hes happy to stay put.

A fully fit Sheaf is game changer, dont believe he was ever fit last year. Remember this time last year, we were demanding £20m for him!

Still fully believe there is load going on behind scenes, Lampard will not just accept status quo, nor should he. We have to evolve, albeit within our means.

I don't think Lampard will be caught off guard by the fact he'll need to move a couple on to bring in his own players. He can probably get some loans, frees or small fee transfers done now but if we're waiting to pull the trigger on anyone costing a good few million we'll be waiting on some outgoings.

We can improve by moving on 1 from the current group of GK, CB, LB, CM and FW. This will not be easy but if we are to improve it has to be done. Its a lot of movement and to be honest I just can't see it happening before this window shuts. The longer it's goes and the closer it gets the quieter we seem to be. We look like we may see 1 or 2 but not the movement we need to take the next step in my opinion.
