Transfer Rumour 25/26 Summer Transfer Window (15 Viewers)

Sheff U player of the year in the PL. Voted best player in the Championship last season. Destroyed us in both games last season. This year has been disrupted by bad management and injury.
I cba to argue about Hamer anymore. I liked him when he was here but he's gone. He moved to a set of wankers, he's in the pomp of his career and he's at the bottom of the Championship, his career highlight was playing in one of the worst Prem sides ever and he seemingly is of little interest to teams higher up the ladder.
I'd rather concentrate on our players, I think there's a handful with better careers ahead than old Gus. Rudi and MvE for sure and I think a couple of others might surprise, Torp being one.

In cases where we have three games in a week, being able to play someone nearer to Torp's ability as opposed to Jamie Allen's would be a clear advantage. The games where it's been just Grimes and Allen in the middle have been real hard work because it's just not Allen's game and especially not from the start.

Likewise I wouldn't be signing a winger with a view to dropping Sakamoto or EMC.
Allen has started three games this season. We simply don’t have the need for an expensive replacement who’s only really adding value that infrequently.

I think we'd struggle to get in true Premier League quality while in the Champ. Think it would perhaps be more sensible to bring in some experienced loans, who we won't be committed to for years, to help see us over the line.

Question for you all, would you have Hamer back in January?
Don't think we can afford his transfer fee or wages.
Need to find another MVE or Tatsu for the prices we paid. Inflation means £3 to £4 million for a player from abroad with that potential. If we choose correctly, would make money even if they are not quite PL class.

Think Mehmeti is a good shout if we can do it. Still quite young, six months left on his deal, potential to make it higher.

I think it’s really hard to get PL quality at this point TBH. Out of interest how many of last seasons promotion January signings are starting regularly?
Everything I have read on here seems to have the assumption we have a magic money tree. The reason Hamer, O'Hare and McCallum are at a parachute club is because we could not afford their wage demands and signing on fees. Two were free transfers.
Perhaps we do have £10 million to spend according to Hull, but we still have a very tight wage limit and Doug will not break it, as it would upset our existing players. That is why I think we will sign players from lower wage clubs in the UK, take subsidised loans or buy from abroad.

Was thinking about this before. Our position in the table makes it very difficult to structure deals for anyone I think. Even the Gambian lad. If he waited till the summer we could probably offer four times the salary if necessary. There would probably need to be clauses with hefty wage increases if we get promoted.

Well I didn't start it. If posters make a claim that is disputable, then people will go for it. It is only opinions, often backed by facts, but it does not mean anyone is right. We all come on here for our two penny worth. Probably in my case, a little more than that.
Unlike some people on here I respect others opinions and try to keep it civil.

On the Hamer debate I thought he was by far the biggest influence in the second half of the Vik & Gus season. I think he came back from suspension and then played like a man possessed for the remainder. Almost single handedly dragging the team up. The goal against Boro in the play offs typified it, Vik wanted it, but Gus was going to get it come what may

I love Torp, but Gus in his pomp is a cut above

I do love taking other Championship teams best players. Not something we are used to doing. Swansea fans' heads completely fell off when Grimes came here.
They're in a similar place to where we were with O'Hare, clearly not going to renew so do you cash in on him in January or use him to get into the top 6. Either way if we are seriously interested he'll cause a massive fuss at Bristol if they don't let him go.

Too important for Bristol to let go. They’re 4 points off automatics so they have a good opportunity to have another stab at the playoffs.

If they sold him, it’s a message that they do not believe they’ll go up. As you say, it is reminiscent of our situation with COH and perhaps had we not had the FA Cup run, we may have mounted a better playoff charge.

If I were in their shoes I'd tell him he's staying put unless there's a silly offer. Based on how Bristol's chairman handles their transfer business I expect that's what he'll do.

Mehmeti is the only one that makes any sense, might take a couple of mil rather than lose him on a free in the summer.
Would you have sold COH to Southampton/Leicester back in 23/24?

My own opinion was no because the playoffs were in reach. If they’d sell him and the club wants him, I’m all for it. He’s a good championship player!
