I remember listening to Martin O'Neil a couple of years ago on Talk Sport discussing why the promoted teams were performing badly. He said you can take the same Championship team up and they will be as quick and as skillful as most average Premier League sides. He said the biggest difference is in the players head, the speed of thought and anticipation of Premier league players is so much quicker than in any other league. The Championship is physical but not played at the same pace, that's why anticipation and reading the game is the bigger attribute that potential players need in the big league. How you measure and include that in a recruitment report is beyond me though.

Also are we really saying Torp and Hamer would have scored what they have if their teams were reversed?

Torp is yet to run a game. It’s as simple as that. Until he has then he’s not in Hamer league.
well he’s won 3 MOTM this season so i’m not sure how you’re defining running a game

Is Hamer league the doner kebab eating version of Baller league?

Question for you all, would you have Hamer back in January?

Well Costelloe went straight back out on loan, Banel didn’t play a minute for them, Shelvey played 11 minutes and Barnes barely over 90 minutes TOTAL.

So in effect it was 2 signings
Depth though wasn't it. Kept the others honest. We may not get injuries, we might be fine as we are but the risk is a mad one to take. We are so far ahead of the pack, not getting bodies in as cover is a crazy gamble considering the pay off if we get promoted.

Our position and play style must be very attractive for Prem teams as a destination for prospects. Even if game time is limited being part of a promotion run in would be a great experience

i’m not really sure we will sign players to keep others “honest” to be fair

He's not Hamer. That's it. He's a dominant Championship midfielder to anyone watching.

He just doesn’t have the same impact on the team. Hamer would drag us through matches on his own. Torp is a decent player with good technique but he’s not close to Hamer. The fact he scores goals in a free scoring side and Hamer doesn’t in a relegation side is the dumbest argument.

Does Torp need to run games? Hamer had to as the rest of the wasn't as good.

Torp could probably make a good fist of controlling and running games if her had to.

Personally think that is utter bollocks! Top teams have strong squads, we currently have a very thin squad on a bit of a knife edge if key players get injured. We would be screwed if Dasilva or Grimes went out long-term.

Burnley added 6 to their squad in Jan 25. It's just want is required to kick on.

Most people think we need a winger to cover/rotate Tats. We can certainly get better LB cover/competition. I honestly think it's mental we haven't got a plan B if Grimes gets crocked. Then we were obviously looking at Bamford so I don't think 4 is unrealistic.

That's total tosh old chap 😊

As I said, we're not getting five players in on loan - which is the point I was replying to - because the parent clubs will want them to be getting regular game time. That means changing half of our outfield players. It's not happening.

We don’t need to rely on two players to drag us through games anymore

Hamer is of course part of that side.

No not intentionally but I bet plenty on here expected Woolfenden to walk into the team. Some times it can just focus players.

It's Mad we had no cover for MvE until this season. Sames happening with Grimes now. Needs sorting, would be smart to get a youngster with at least some of his attributes to understudy him. Give them minutes when we can.

I don't actually think we were planning on MVE still being here, so we'd probably just be ploughing along with KKH at right back and no back up.

Never suggest Hamer isn't the second coming of Zidane when Shmmeee is online.
Torp can keep banging us to promotion while Hamer at what should be the peak of his powers pisses around in a relegation battle at Blunts.

Colin Stein
Gary Gillespie

Off the top of my head. Both hits. Eoin Jess was good too.
Gillespie brilliant. Jess described as the best player, at that time with the ball, but overall not great. Stein loved for his effort, heading ability and toughness, but again, more loved than was justified. Described by one journalist as a player who could not trap a bag of cement.
Kevin Gallacher and Tommy Hutchison via Blackpool arguably two of the best Scottish players ever to pull on a City shirt.

Hamer should have moved on after they lost the playoff final

2 on loan 2 smart buys would be enough. A 6 month loan from a prem club wouldn't have to promise them the world. Let them come in and try earn a spot. They can have cup games because I doubt we will be prioritising that this year. They will get minutes.

we really only have 2 wingers and 1 LB that fit our style now it isn't mad to try and get in players that can cover these areas but not change the game plan drastically. Bidders can't do close to what Jay does. Moving Haji or BTA out wide changes the dynamic loads too. Get in someone who can do those jobs. Give them minutes when tats and EMC are tired. It's not rocket science

Players leave football clubs and that’s OK

Funnily enough I was having a similar argument about O'Hare and Rudoni last year...
To be clear, having Hamer and O'Hare as squad players and possibly McCallum too would show how far this team has come, but they're all strong options in this league for their respective positions.

That and fucking up Sheff Utd's season in one fell swoop is tough to resist.
