Woodman is about as " good " as Collins

I think we’re nailed on to being in another number one keeper - we’re not going to try and muddle through with Wilson for half a season.

There’s also no guarantee Dovin comes back in fine form. The risk is too high to get this wrong. It has to be a full season loan or a permanent transfer for a GK we’d be happy to be number 1.

If we plan to keep progressing we need to look at better than Riis.

Yeah I think most fans are discounting the likelihood that Dovin will not come back as the automatic number 1. Very unfortunately timed injury for him.

I do agree. Unless we're in a miraculous position that sees Dovin coming back early, the club needs to set aside extra budget for a GK this season.

Will help if we can move Collins on - which is far easier said than done.

May have something to do with Hadji Wright playing on the wing and Not playing the right pass.

Given Chelsea's abundance of keepers (and they are probably going to add another this summer) and Franks connections, a 6-12 month loan for one of their backups on mates rates makes sense and will hopefully leave money to strengthen elsewhere

Personally I'd prefer the loan option. 6 months with a view to extending depending on performance / how able Dovin is to return into the fold.

On reflection I really don't think it's overly pragmatic to be saddled with yet another permanent GK on our books really if we're unable to move Collins on.

True but Collins maximum has only a year left anyway. Even if we cant persuade him to leave permanently we may be able to loan him out

This season proved that you need 2 competent GKs. People like to forget that Dovin was regularly putting in MOTM calibre performances in our run Jan-Feb.

With an ACL, particularly the way Dovin did the injury, there’s the risk he could do it again. It has to be a 12 month loan minimum, a 6 month loan potentially exposes us.

Wilson is a 3rd choice keeper imo and Collins will be bombed out.

Possibly, but personally I think you're being over cautious. He suffered it at the back end of March. Meaning really he should be good to go by January if all goes well.

Not sure sidelining him unnecessarily for the best part of half a season is the best strategy for him moving forward or in his development.

6 month loan with option to extend gives the club the flexibility to send back or extend the loan if Dovin suffers any kind of setback in his recovery.

The guidelines for an ACL is 9-12 months so it could be as long as March.

Equally, a 6 month loan means the parent club can opt to take him back at the end of the loan which would be mostly likely a 1st Jan expiry. Even end of Jan is within the recommended rehab period for an ACL injury so Dovin may not be ready.

Again, you’re still left with Wilson and Collins for backups which is unacceptable given how this season has ended. It’s an area that needs addressing properly and a 6 month loan kicks the can down the road.

A lot of people’s idea of ‘acceptable’ cover is completely inadequate. There’s posts in preseason that were genuinely happy with the prospect of Kai Andrews being a 4th or 5th choice CM…

I'm well aware of the recovery time of an ACL, I think we're all well acquainted by now.

As i've mentioned though Saddle has indicated recently that the recovery window for Dovin had been reduced to October/November time. So if that is indeed the case we categorically won't need, nor likely get for that matter, a loan player for 12 months.

The parent club would only look to recall if they a) had an injury criss or b) looked to move him to higher placed club to fast track his development. I really don't think the latter would be an issue given we're hopefully going to be competing at the business end of the Championship.

Regarding the highlighted point this isn't FIFA. We can't just keep on stockpiling goalkeepers. You would've thought one will have to move on if a more permanent solution is brought in as other areas also are in desperate need of addressing.

Probably get stick but how about Rhian Brewster from Sheffield? Can play up front and I think on the right, out of contract aswell, good at this level and knows the league

What if Dovin has a set back or needs time to get back upto speed? October / November will go out of the window

I really struggle with people that fail to read.

I've already touched upon that in this thread and it likely won't change anything if he does suffer a setback. There will be an option to extend in Jan or even bring someone in more permanent if for whatever reason extending isn't an option.

Ideally we want a more permanent solution to come in whether that be a player on a permanent contract or a loan for the entire season but a) we need to try to move Collins on and b) the management team will need to assess timelines with regards to Dovins recovery and rough return date.

I've not taken anything out of context you didn't read the full thread.

As mentioned, if he suffers a setback as unideal as it is it doesn't particularly change anything. Either the club can extend a six month loan, or if that's not possible they'll likely dip back into the market either for another loan or a permanent solution.

I'd rather see the club look to integrate Dovin back into the fold this season rather than take the approach of seemingly writing him off for the entire campaign.

And he’s clearly struggling to score goals. Not a chance. Simms is younger than him and has scored 3 x more goals for fewer games.

Worth listening to the comments by Callum Wislon though in the interview linked in the football and other sports forum.
Says it can take 18 months to get back to your best, that may not apply for keepers though.

Either way, we definitely need a keeper in.

A 6 month loan would expire in Jan so it’s not a recall. Anyway, a short term deal assumes three things:

1. Dovin’s form picks up from where he left off
2. His rehab continues to go well
3. He doesn’t get injured again

Set aside the question of whether or not Wilson and Collins are sufficient cover (they’re not), we need to progress the squad and have 2 GKs capable of playing the way Lampard wants.

Dovin has the potential to go far, but we can’t have a situation similar to Jodi Jones where we had the excitement of ‘when’ he gets back to his old self and that just never happened.

He’s one year into a 4 year contract. Anyone wanting to take him off us this close season is going to have to pay through the nose. A non-prem team would have to pay us enough to facilitate the rebuild of our entire squad.

And yes, I know I’m biting to a “story” that originated on FLW which I don’t think has ever been right about any story ever.

Read he's in talks about a renewal so won't happen, plenty of options out there just hope the club acts early.

I'm sure the window opens up this end of this week
