Glad you aren't the manager christ.

Imagine Lampard just saying "meh not arsed about strengthening as we finished 5th last year"
Last time we got playoffs the squad got gutted and we started the season with basically a completely new one.

This time we just need a few tweaks, looks like MVE will be the one loss offset by KKHs arrival. Then I'm sure we're working on a CB signing given they sanctioned Binks' exit. It's about marginal improvements rather than anything radical.

useless platitude

I know it is a bit of a cliche but I think it’s sorta true what Shunt said tbf, good businesses always reinvent themselves and come out with new products to keep customers engaged with their brand (I suppose the exception is water companies and brands like Coca Cola etc, but you get the point).

Out of all the businesses in the world, football is the one sector that you can go backwards very quickly.

If you stand still in football, other teams will overtake you, that is a fact. It’s not like we steamrolled into the playoffs and the form leading in to the backend of the season was hardly brilliant.

I’m not worried as I’m sure we will strengthen over the coming weeks but to say we don’t need to strengthen is naive.

Maybe...but if you have a young squad..like we have then these players will be stronger and better than last year;

Dovin
MVE
Kitching
Thomas
JDS
EMC
Eccles
Sheaf
Rudoni.
Simms
Rodrigues
Asante
Bassette

As good as last year/ at their peak

Haji Wright
Sakamoto
Grimes
Latibaudiere

On the wane / past their best;

Allen
Bidwell

I reckon our squads in good hands. Hence why we are still rated highly.

Well, yes maybe, but still I think we’re not quite there yet as promotion-ready squad. Whether we have the cash for it, I don’t think any of us really know, but I do think it would be a disappointment if we went into a very open season without strengthening the defence and centre-forward areas.

Define "strengthen" though. People have this idea that other teams buying loads of players are "strengthening" Strengthening also means coaching who you have

We will strengthen the defence and forward areas

I expect to see a CB, RB, RW and a ST

A lot depends on identifying the right player at the right price who wants join us. Football is not an exact science and it is easier said than done. Even players who seem the perfect fit can flop for all sorts of reasons.

I would rather we build slowly by identifying the right players rather than signing players just to tick a box. Plenty of time left in this window also and we should be reasonably competitive already.

Incremental improvements each year. We run a model where we buy, improve and then sell. If one key player leaves, likely MVE, then you have to use the to strengthen other areas.

We are currently in worse shape than we were at the end of last season, GK aside. When MVE goes, we’ll only have 1 RB again. Binks has gone too, so another area that needed addressing is short.

There’s a lot of bedwetting about transfers coming in but we will definitely see new faces through the door by the end of the window. We’ll be fine.

You don’t know that do you, same way I don’t

we’re clearly in the market for signings they will come ffs

The only thing I would say is, if we were really planning on bringing in players In all the positions you mention; by this stage in the window we would have been more proactive getting players out of the door to make room. We practically have a full compliment for the 25 man senior squad.

I wouldnt be surprised if we just see two more in and two out.

That would be the ideal for me but I just don’t see all of those coming in and think we will all be disappointed.

LCB, RB and RW are non negotiable as we need cover for all positions - can’t go into a season with only one option for these.

ST id love us to get but the truth is we’ve got 4 on the books so unless Simms or BTA get sold (can’t see it) then I don’t see us getting one.

Yeah I definitely think those 3 positions will be sorted

We generally have radio silence for ages and pull a rabbit out of a hat, as proven last time with Grimes and recently Rushworth, think it'll be the case again and we'll make the next signing with little to no rumours at all beforehand
This is going to be the exact line of thought until deadline day.

I wonder at what point on deadline will we finally realise its not happening.

There is of course almost a month left before the window closes but it does seem that in recent days activity has really picked up elsewhere, it’s painfully obvious that we needed to sell before we bought (big ish anyway). I get we are keeping all of our squad but we all know we still need better quality, fingers crossed it’s on its way !

I think Rushworth will prove to be a massive loan signing for us.
Last season we gave away so many needless goals that cost us god knows how many points.
With a decent keeper on board, and Frank having a full pre season to work with the players, im looking forward to seeing a far more consistent team.

it will be the excuse again if we have another slow start. I guess to look on the bright side, we will have one of the most settled squads!

Well we have heard it from the horses mouth we don’t go chasing players in the last few days of a transfer window. Only if negotiations are already a long way down the line will the club pursue things into the last few days.

Currently we need a CB and a winger.

If MVE goes we need full back cover
Ideally we want to sell a striker and sign one.

I'd be happy with the first 2, amazed if theres any more.

It can take time, we’re not the apex predator, and evidently we’re reliant on other deals happening first.

I think the first two will happen, if we don’t bring anyone in then we can be dissatisfied, but we’ve no reason to think we won’t bring the players in.

I think we’ll definitely get a CB and one other. Should be funds + room in the squad after Binks and MVE go.

No complaints from you if we get a CB and winger then!

Indeed. Allen/Eccles etc could move as well because they want regular game time for example…need a squad
I forget the author who pointed out that if a player starts 50% of games then he is a regular starter. Surprisingly many players in squads (it was based on the PL) don't achieve this. I get that twists the dynamic as PL teams have bigger squads.
However, Eccles has started well over 50% in recent seasons. And we may need him to cover at RB/RWB. Eccles will get a lot of minutes when he is fit.

My guess is that this summer BTA, Simms, Binks, Lati, Bidwell, Eccles, Allen, Collins and Milan were all made available for transfer this window but only Binks and Milan had takers. Would imagine Frank isn't to bothered either way about whether the players left or stayed, both options have there benefits and drawbacks.

Again wouldn't be surprised if they were still moved on as we move through the window.
Absolutely no chance. Lets make 9 of the squad available. A squad that got in the playoffs.
Lampard has said he is happy with his players and would like some additions.
You take the minutes those players did out of the squad and replace them with who?
Every player in any squad is available if the price is right, but you don't just make them available because some social media pundits would like it to happen.
