Brentford will swoop for Sheffield United midfielder Gustavo Hamer if Yoane Wissa becomes the latest player to be lured away from the Gtech Stadium, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

After being pressured into selling Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United, new Bees head coach Keith Andrews now faces the possibility of losing Wissa too with Newcastle adding his name to their list of potential targets.

Although he would not be a like for like replacement, Hamer’s ability and relatively modest price tag would make him an attractive proposition for Thomas Frank’s replacement.

Crucially, Andrews also knows the 28-year-old well following his brief spell as a member of The Blades’ backroom staff a year ago.

Unlike the Irishman, Hamer remains at Bramall Lane having moved there from Coventry City in the summer of 2023.

But with United failing to regain their Premier League status at the first attempt, they were beaten in the Championship play-off final by Sunderland, the Brazil-born attacker’s future there continues to be shrouded in doubt.

Having been brought up in Holland and choosing to represent the Netherlands at both under-18 and under-20 level, PSV Eindhoven have already made their intentions to lure Hamer back across the North Sea crystal clear.

Be a great signing for them but they’ll struggle this year.

Should have joined a team like Brentford when he left us.

England or Anderlecht for the sporting aspect

Southampton, Norwich and Coventry — three Championship clubs — have already shown interest. A transfer to this competitive championship could be an excellent opportunity to progress, especially since the rise to the Premier League in a year or two is not an illusion for these ambitious teams. However, we are waiting for an offer from across the Channel, supposedly in the coming days. Coventry is more concrete in its approach, but has not yet proposed anything.

We would be very stupid if we didn't put a offer in and sign Bertaccini, come on Douglas get it sorted ffs

I’d be disappointed if we didn’t get him now

If we are in for him do we reckon he’s a Wright or a Simms replacement? Is he going to start every week?
