We don't yet we have in recent years given contracts to Jones, Kasta, Hilssner, Dinanga, Jobello and co who are all predominantly wingers.

3 of them will or already have gone

To be fair:

- Jones has been with us for 5 years or so and is being retrained into the AM role.
- Kastaneer is just a geezer.
- Hilssner feels like a more pointless signing by the day, so I’ll give you that.
- Dinanga is a youth player and there’s no saying we won’t change formation if/when he develops.
- Jobello came in when we played 433. It was only his injury that brought about the change in location.

Dinanga has played the 10 in pre-season too.

I agree with you, I just find these examples a bit odd given we haven't really gone with wingers since Jobello's injury as you say.

Can't believe this.

I appreciate that he hasn't set the world alight in the last couple of seasons, but he was unplayable at times during his loan spell with us. His creativity, ability to ghost past players and create something out of nothing is something I haven't seen in a Cov player in a very long time. He's got magic in his boots and I can't wait to see how he gets on next season.

I know his attitude has been questioned, but he still has age on his side to get that right, and Robins has already shown he knows how to get the best out of him.

If Robs can get him ticking then he'll be a fantastic option to bring off the bench to spark a game and give O'Hare a breather - who we were so over reliant on last season.

Yes I have had a few beers, but I honestly think if this goes well it has the potential to be one of the best signings we've made in yonks.

Pre Season results do not always give an indication of how we will do. What really worries me is the Covid situation in the camp. Are the loans that we were told would be here now not currently being allowed because we have Covid present? Sure they will happen eventually but we are going to start the season with a good number of players not having a proper pre season together and that is not a good situation. Loads of players are playing catch up. Kelly, Eccles and Godden injured, Dabo, Rose, O'Hare, Hyam and McFaz seemingly recovering from the bug The defence at present remains a shambles and I can't believe we have only scored one goal. WTF is happening.

Robins said in his interview with Boyle sports that the 7-10 day time frame had been delayed out of his control but basically hinted they are all done and dusted. It's just a matter of when not if.

It may not just be us. If the team they're coming from have a Covid outbreak as well he can't join in.

Given the way things seem to be for an increasing number of squads it wouldn't surprise me if a quarantine period was put in.

I think a possible reason for the spread could be that this time of year you have a lot of trialists in and they go to a number of clubs in a short timeframe. So players have a trial somewhere with Covid, they all go to various other clubs on trial without it being detected, pass it on, then the triallists at that club do the same. Pretty easy to see how it can spread.

I think the beer explains a lot of this. Look at his playing record since that loan spell and tell me honestly if anyone else had it that you’d be excited at signing him.

Cue him becoming our player of the season

Yes this is correct they have had covid and I think are “free” today or tomorrow so expect something to be announced . The centre half on loan is awaiting Chelsea to get all the euro players back in the club

So the CB is Clarke Salter, that would be good.

Reservations about both Maatsen and Clarke-Salter based on their records last season, but both seem to be exactly the type of players were missing so happy with that and young loanees are by definition improving year on year.

Still want us to bring a free in, maybe Cranie, maybe Souaré anyone at the Mansfield game able to say how the Souaré got on? If he’s anything like he was I’d rather take him at four years younger and able to cover LWB/LB.

Agree, souare is the better option on paper, depending on his fitness.

Flexibility of 2 position. Would just leave CM left to sort.

Is Clarke-Salter actually any good? Both Sunderland and Blues fans have told me he's dreadful.

Not sure I've ever watched him play so not sure if they're just winding me up.

Perhaps the thinking behind signing Souare/Craine would be it replaces the experience of James, meaning as you say we could get a younger CM on loan.

Doesn’t matter anyway. This season Sheaf and Hamer are going to dominate the Championship and not get injured or out of form

Jake Clarke-Salter played 45mins for Chelsea v Bournemouth tonight. Not sure if that rules him out of being an option.

Great to see Dujon Sterling got 45mins too.

Dujon played CB and we have had him before and targeted him before so maybe he is the long term target new CB??

He seemingly went from hero to zero in no time at all.
Far exceeded my expectations in terms of competency. Prior to his first game, from what I read on here, I imagined that someone had essentially given Mr Tickle a pair of gloves and somehow he’d forced his way into our first team.
