Fucking pathetic, it really is.

The EFL really showing their priorities, hope it's worth it for them while it will cause issues for hundreds of thousands across the country.

Think it's a governing body decision - ie, the EPL and EFL as it looks like they were given the option of staging fixtures:

The PA news agency understands that sports were advised by the Government in a meeting on Friday morning that events can take place this weekend provided they are staged in a commemorative and respectful manner.

Julian Knight, the chair of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport select committee, told PA: "This seems to be a sensible approach - that it's going to be up to individual sports how they mark the passing of our remarkable Queen.

"Whether that is silences, the wearing of black armbands or the singing of the National Anthem, or whether there will be those who wish at this time that perhaps they won't be having an event at all - it's completely up to the individual sports.

"But the Government guidance seems to be relatively flexible and understanding."

Further guidance released by the Government on National Mourning stated as follows: "There is no obligation to cancel or postpone events and sporting fixtures, or close entertainment venues during the National Mourning period.

"As a mark of respect, organisations might wish to consider cancelling or postponing events or closing venues on the day of the State Funeral. They are under no obligation to do so and this is entirely at the discretion of individual organisations.

"If sporting fixtures or events are planned for the day of the State Funeral, organisations may want to adjust the event timings so they do not clash with the timings of the funeral service and associated processions."

so 22 home games to fit in across october - April (less 1 month for the world cup) = 22 games in 26 weeks at home

Looking for a positive, delays the inevitable defeat and gives us Luton/Birmingham to pick up points before the international break.

We really could be doing with playing for the sake of some match sharpness, but at least all other teams will be losing out this weekend too

I agree that we should mourn the passing of the Queen but feel the game should have been played.
On a Coventry City note I am finding it hard to see a way we are going to get out of this nightmare start to the season. Everything has conspired against us getting any momentum and we are going to be at a disadvantage the whole season.

Ridiculous decision.

How many people are actually going to be settling down to watch this nonsense on the TV all weekend?

It's OK, the joey's still are still going to work as normal. Life must go on until it means an Exec can try and impress people with their "respects" by using their power.

I totally agree, we will do well to get off the bottom of the league before the break for the World Cup.

I think we should be getting on with it, honestly. I know they want to show respect and all that, but I don't see any reason they couldn't have gone ahead and had the usual mark of respect before kick off.

From a purely City point of view, this isn't helpful. We've already got a backlog, and now we've got to squeeze another one in somewhere.

Don't get it. Could get behind the Royal family if there was an element of danger involved, like a Cromwell type figure could appear at any moment and murder you. Otherwise, what's the point? They really haven't done enough in my eyes to warrant the position. Where's the raising of armies and loyal followers to your cause? The destruction of other elite families? I want to see them really want the throne, with blood, sweat, and tears.

And for some reason we can't play football for a week?

I’ve actually got a mate coming over from Germany to see the city and catch up with a few pals and picked this weekend especially. I wonder if they will refund his ticket and flights because he won’t be here for the replay. Somehow I doubt it.

I wouldn’t bank on it government has announced ten days of national mourning and our new King has announced seventeen days of Royal mourning nor sure what that means

Yes, but all of us need to mourn like the media pretend to. they’ll be calling for us to become a republic in 6 months time.

National mourning is from now until the evening off the funeral - I guess 23:59 on probably Monday 19th Sept. The royal houses and their staff have a further 7 days of mourning after that.
