    They didn't pay that for the arena as such. They paid it to the council to pay off the council's debt, albeit without the "small profit" the council used to justify taking on the debt originally. Imagine buying a house where the current owner has decided to remortgage and now owes its lender...

    The big difference is the £14.4m loan. Once the council had taken it on it wasn't something that could be distressed like the one from the YB perhaps could have been. Why would you buy a loan that isn't really worth anything?

    That nature of business full stop is to not pay full price if you can get away way with it. Not that prices really exist in a market economy. Wasps in this case have managed to get a better price and more fit their buck. It can't all be down to their manners, can it?

    Not sure about that chief, AWM and the other Regional Development Agencies were abolished in 2010. The local enterprise partnership may be able to draw down European money, but I doubt redeveloping an existing stadium would qualify.

    It was a derelict brownfield site though and the applicant was the Regional Development Agency who managed ERDF at that time.
