If you think his role is to score goals, you're missing the point. His role is very much to enhance the team, to bring other players into the game and to press defenders and so on. A poor man's Heskey if you will. The guy got player of the year for Burton in the 14/15 season (L2 Champs), scoring...

The more pertinent point being that in Robins' opinion, he's not up to stratch with the rest of the squad. He's a development player, thus, his development is the most important thing to us. Besides, younger players rarely maintain form for a whole season straight, so I'd rather him burst onto...

    Mark Robins

For all the hype surrounding 'The Duck', I get the impression Nazon isn't fit enough to play for 90m. Fades out of games after a while and MR's comments indicate he's a pretty lax trainer too. If we can improve him and knock these bad habits out of him, I'd like to at least try and sign him...

I think him going to Newcastle stunted his development. Went from 1st team player, playing week in, week out in the championship, to not playing at all... (... I think the same will happen to George Thomas.) Also, even if Ponticelli is the real deal, I think we've got a good enough squad for...

    Injuries

We've just been a tad unlucky. But I think we've got the depth to compete as shown last night. Andreu is a big blow, because I thought he'd be a big contributor to our season. But, I think we've got the team to adapt and move on. Even without him, this team should be good enough for top 5. If...

I think Jones is benefitted from the increased game time, coaching and the faith Robins has in him. L2 isn't as high a standard, but, it's allowed him to develop where I think he'd be a star player in L1 for us. He's been with us since a 17yrs old, we probably expected too much of him early on...

    Our defence

We play 4-2-3-1 so the formation kind of lends itself to that midfield shape. 4-4-2 you're looking more balance because the 2 strikers can get isolated without a more attacking midfielder in there. Options for me now Andreu is injured: 1) Keep the same shape, but with Nazon behind the striker...

Match Thread Coventry City - Carlisle United Match Thread - Tuesday 12th Sep

I think a lot of people panicked after our 2 game losing streak. But, this team is solid, we've kept a staggering 5 clean sheets in 7, and I think we'd be in even better stead had it not been for keeping errors. Think we've got all the tools needed to come top 7 at least in this league. Tonight...

That's how things have panned out so far, but, I hope sooner rather than later we get that comeback win. It's going to be important if we're going to well. Otherwise we'll be in a cycle of 'win one, lose one' like in MR's first spell.

    Can we win the league?

Atm, you're right. But, this is off the back of 3 very disappointing results and before then we beat Notts County 3-0 (who haven't lost since) and Grimsby 2-0. That to me suggests the goals are in there. The main this is our defence - best in the league so far - with 2 keeping howlers! For me...

Match Thread Coventry City - Carlisle United Match Thread - Tuesday 12th Sep

Think we'll shape up 4-2-3-1 again tomorrow night. Nazon getting a chance down the middle behind Beavon. I think we could see Ponticelli for the first time this season too. Burge Grimmer Davies Willis Stokes Kelly Doyle Vincenti Nazon Jones Beavon I think we'll win this and hopefully keep...

    Andreu's injury

Duckens Nazon to start and the fans rejoice as the 'The Duck', 'The Duke'* or 'Nazonator' finally gets his chance... only for him to be terrible and the fans abandon him. * kind of worrying that Nazon shares nicknames with 'Il Duce' (The Duke) Mussolini... haha

    Can we win the league?

That was a season that was comparatively very low scoring. How many season will the top scoring teams are on 69 goals? Would have been 6-7th last season (in that category). If you go into games knowing you won't concede more than 1 goal, you don't need to be free flowing. We literally scored...

    Can we win the league?

That's how I've interpreted it as, it makes more sense too. Its easier said than done when most teams are putting 8-10 players behind the ball and playing for draws. I think at full strength, Andreu playing behind McNulty will be the most potent partnership we have. Playing Beavon and NcNulty...

    Can we win the league?

The comparison isn't ridiculous - we could've went top of the league during the Xmas period. The perception of most L1 fans was that we'd be up there in the playoffs/autos... before we capitulated. The key to doing well in this league is solid defence. Just look at the top 7 and the GA section...

    Can we win the league?

We've got to the exact same start as Donny - who bottled it big time - and Pompey were stop start for the first 15. Still to early to tell, but, IF we keep up our defensive form, we will be in top 7, that's almost a guarantee.

    Lee Burge

Against teams in the league above and the teams we put out were weakened. So I'd say it's unrepresentative. O'Brien conceded 3 against Blackburn, I'm also not counting that...

    Lee Burge

I'm well aware that he started with 2 clean sheets, and a fantastic performance against Blackburn. In the league though, he's responsible for 66% of our goals... he had to get dropped. Whilst it's not as important having competition between keepers, it certainly can't harm. O'Brien was signed...

    Lee Burge

Two games, two clean sheets. The prior two with O'Brien, two mistakes. As it stands, most of our goals concede are from O'Brien's mistakes alone and he was deservedly dropped. But, I think these are both good keepers for L2 and competition for starting spots is good.
  20. Mucca Mad Boys

    Still not there yet but...

I'm happy with where we are to be honest. Some disappointing results, but, our defence is looking like it's going to very strong. If it remains to be the case, the attacking side of the game will take care of itself. I'd be more concerned if we were leaking goals but the goals were free...
