On the flip side, we've conceded one goal which every L2 GK saves 99/100. I think (and hope) we'll concede less than 50 goals this season. We gifted a team who were playing for a draw a goal that gave them the lead. It's the kind of game where if we scored first, we win in a manner similar to...

I would keep him in myself, I've just got a feeling MR will mix it up! I'm not overly concerned about the loss to Newport so 1-2 changes will do.

Andreu in for Beavon, and Nazon may get the nod over Vincenti... No need for any knee jerk reactions! Going for a win here, break the mold of drawing this fixture!

I think Biamou is supposed to be that player, MR said of him: 'He is a raw talent with pace, power and aggression, and is also good in the air'. We also missed out on that Donny striker who is a target man too. I do hope Biamou picks things up, but of all our signings, he looks like the weak...

We already have, as you're describing Andreu... That's what he was signed for at least.

    Transfer Rumour #CARLBAKERDAY

I don't disagree with you, I just think you're being too idealistic - how many options do you think a L2 team can have? We've already got a massive squad... Biamou is supposed to be a physical striker you describe, he hasn't really demonstrated that yet unfortunately! I think Andreu and McNulty...

    Transfer Rumour #CARLBAKERDAY

Do we really need that? We have Nazon and Jones for pacey, direct wide players. If anything, Baker would add something a bit different. I can sympathise on one level about the target man, but I don't think it's a necessity and we've got 4 1st team strikers. That's without including Ponticelli...

Far too many people panicking. Disappointing result but I hope the players learn from it all. Teams will put 10 behind the ball against us and we've got to learn how to deal with it. They scored a goal O'Brien saves 9/10 - it should've been a draw... I'd be more concerned if we're thoroughly...

    Transfer Rumour #CARLBAKERDAY

If he was good enough for Pompey last season, he's good enough for me. I'm not that fussed whether we sign him or not, but I think he'd be a good addition to the squad if he's available.

    Transfer Rumour #CARLBAKERDAY

I'd say so. We don't don't have many 'out and out' wingers; Vincenti, Nazon (isnt he a CAM/ST?) and Andreu are typically more central players who can play out wide. But, more importantly, he adds experience to the squad - he was promoted last season - and we know he'll chip in with about 10...

I'm not worried about it too much. It is the kind of game we need to be winning to have a successful season... That said, Newport with their new manager, are a good outfit. What concerns me is that we appear to struggle with teams who play 5 at the back. I trust Robins will sort it out.

Would be a good signing. I think this would mean Biamou would be omitted from the match day 18. Only signing I'm worried about in all honesty.

    Crowd be interesting next week.

Being at uni, the example of our club saddens just about every fellow lower league fans and it's clear to even people who have nothing to do with Cov see that the fans just aren't going to come back until the owners go. If we do well, attendances will go up, I can see attendances hitting 10-15k...

Match Thread Coventry City - Newport County Match Thread - Saturday 19th Aug

It should be interesting, we did seem to struggle with Blackburn's shape of 5-3-2, as their wingbacks always had space. That was, however, a second string side against a team with a lot of quality. This is the kind of game we've got to be winning if we want promotion this year, it's at home...

Well, at the time, I was disappointed. In hindsight, Clarke wanted to go to his hometown team, who were definitely going to get promoted, and we got £1m for a 29yr old... I think it was a deal that worked for us and Leon Clarke. Transfers aren't a zero-sum game, you don't get £1m to spend...

We weren't successful per se. We did well considering the points deduction. But, was we so successful it was worth turning down £1m for Leon Clarke? No, because like you say, we had an 'outside chance' of the playoffs. As a fan I was sorely disappointed losing him, but £1m for an ageing League 1...

Match Thread Coventry City - Newport County Match Thread - Saturday 19th Aug

An unknown quantity implies 'we don't really know what this team is capable of'. The players we have signed have very well known quantities as a significant amount of our squad is proven at L2 - about 5 starters have been promoted - and L1 level. Before, we have at times relied on unknown...

Both examples you've given are to the contrary of my point. I said there's not really precedent of us selling a key player in the middle of successful season. Maybe Sisu were inspired by the American concept of 'tanking' a season...
