    Simms

Robins selection policy is simple. You play your way into the team. Godden deserved his starts after 2 goals v Oxford and now Simms has a goal, I’d expect him to be in the starting 11 against Norwich. It’s in him to nail down the spot now.

    Simms

Considering Simms comments when he joined, it’s definitely a MR signing. He sold the club and had a plan how to develop Simms. https://www.ccfc.co.uk/news/2023/july/interview-ellis-simms-gives-his-reaction-after-completing-city-move/

    Simms

A stat I’d like to see is how many touches our strikers have had in the box. I don’t think Simms or Godden have had many and it is a telling stat. Yes, their movement could be better. It’s also the responsibility of the midfielders and full backs need to be finding them more often.

    Simms

Neither has Godden. For all the faults of Simms and Godden, they’ve not had many clear cut chances to work with. It’s more a system issue. Simms needs run in the team now, and we need to put balls in behind defences for Wright and Simms to chase down on. Likewise, we need to get crosses in the...

It’s performances like this that demonstrate that our midfield isn’t as strong as some claim. We had Hamer & Sheaf last season remember. Torp’s first impressions are positive but Eccles needs to elevate his game even more if Sheaf is out for a long time.

I think COH had a frustrating game too. We need to be more direct in some areas and there were times I felt he slowed us down somewhat. It could also apply to a few other players. The team looked leggy/tired.

I think he’ll start v Norwich and be subbed after 60-75m. He looked tidy and composed on the ball. On early viewing, a definite upgrade.

Torp isn’t considered ready to play 90m yet. He’s just had a mini preseason and will be lacking match fitness. Now we’ve got to get him up to speed. As for Kells, I’m not sure what difference he would’ve made for better to be honest.

    Transfer targets

It’s not our strongest area. Torp has looked v good so far and in Sheaf’s absence, he’ll need to get to speed quickly. As things stand, Eccles is a good system player - he’s good defensively and he doesn’t give the ball away. However, an area he’s yet to flourish in is his control of the...

    Uber for Matt?

In fairness to Godden, his value is and always has been his finishing. As a team, we have struggled to create chances in the box for any of our strikers. For me, it’s a system rather than a hardware issue, and Godden in this system is not the person to deliver the output we need. It’s 12...

I think we needed Lati for the defensive cover. I don’t think he had the best game either - a square peg in a round hole.

That’s the kind of signing you make when you need a ‘jacket filler’ 😂

Have you considered that we tried and failed getting our top targets in? Better to go without and regroup in the summer if this is a long term project.

He’s had some good defensive interventions but he’s probably just fatigued and could do with a rest. For everyone who’s back Eccles to be a real Top 6 midfielder, the one thing he’s yet to prove (imo) is running a match in his own. No Hamer or Sheaf to dominate. That his next area of...

With Sheaf going off it’s a v good opportunity for Eccles to step up and run game. So far, not so good. He’s playing well but he and Lati are just not creating much. Could do with Simms, Wright and Torp coming on at some point.
