100%agree. We have players who can play in a 3 to cover for Sakamoto. He went back to the WB system at Sheff Weds in the cup and we were shit, and toothless. Same tonight.

I was disappointed we didn't give Max another 12 months in 2021. We ended up splashing out on Martyn Waghorn instead. Max could of done a job as back up striker that season. Godden was missing for much of the campaign as was Tyler Walker.

Happy with the return of the box. Makes sense, and we need to be starting O'Hare & Palmer in this game. Put them in behind Simms, and I reckon some damage can be caused. Binks / Lati / Kitching / Thomas can cover the 3 CB positions nicely.

No issue with Eccles, and with Lati there it might free him more to drive forward. As others have said, our creativity comes from Saka, Wright, O'Hare Palmer & Simms.

Eccles MOM? 😳. Great player but far from his best today. Dasilva , Thomas and Simms all 8. Excellent. Binks was playing some suicidal passes at times. Thought Tavares did alright, with little service. Wright, an off day but always involved .

Who both played in our run in last season. People underestimate Kelly. Yes his injuries have been bad, but he’s played in 3 divisions for us. His performances in The Boro playoff games last season were top drawer.

No problem with Simms, links play well, strong and pacey once he gets going. He's missed some chances (but not THAT many), and no more than Godden. He also offers more than Godden in terms of running in behind, and playing the lone target man role (see Leeds away).

Agreed. As you say, possibly our 4 best players not starting last night. If you'd taken Hamer, Vik, Sheaf & Doyle out of our team last season, and played that game last night, we would of got nothing.

I feel for Godden, and I am not convinced it's wholly down to him. Neither Simms or Wright have been successful in that central role in our new system, and it seems the position demands good link up play, in an almost False 9 role. This is not Godden's style, so he ends up having to drop deep...
