These commentators appear to be enjoying reminding the audience of how far we have fallen - "their lowest league position since 1960 etc"

Steve Staunton in the crowd taking notes

Wasn't he a disaster at Ireland and Walsall?

Perhaps not but the idea that we should be nervous about playing Stevenage at home is ridiculous. I like the attitude of the Stevenage manager (saying his players should feel aggrieved about every match they lose). We could do with someone with that sort of demanding attitude here.

You might see some positivity when we are not struggling to beat the likes of Stevenage at home and losing to Crewe Alexandra away. Until we start bossing it against these clubs who are a quarter of the size of us then I'm afraid I'm not going to be positive as that would be defeatist.

McGoldrick looks way too good for this level.

Haven't seen us play so far this year so intitial thoughts. Barton looks absolutely terrible. Gangly, constantly giving away the ball, gets knocked off the ball too easily. Looks like a candidate for an alltime nightmare XI on this evidence. Is he always this bad? I'd expected much more from...

    Terry Connor

I can't even begin to describe how gutted I would feel if Terry Connor was appointed our new manager. I'm sure he is a nice bloke and all that but his record at Wolves was abysmal (no wins in 13 games) - probably the worst record of any manager in the entire Football League last season. He...

sacking AT is a terrible decision

The way I see it, he was sacked after 60 games not 3. If he had been successful last season does anyone honestly think he'd have only been given 3 games this season? You have to see it in context.

    Dennis Wise

Would love to see him back at the club.

Players to try to offload before the transfer window closes

Is he actually injured or is he just being his usual workshy self?

ROD, Bell, any others? I worry that instead it will be Wood and Hussey.

League 1 & 2 managers with good win percentages!

Incredible that Graham Turner is still managing. He was the manager at Villa about 30 years ago!

    Chief Scout Role

I think there's too much bad blood between Thorn, SISU, Fisher and the players for him to be appointed Chief Scout. Also I can't imagine the new manager would be too chuffed to have Thorn still around on the scene. We need a clean break. Bobby Gould might be a better bet for scout, he did...

    Back to the future?

Would you have any of our former managers back? Only ones who might realistically be in the hunt this time are: Bobby Gould Phil Neale Gordon Strachan Gary McAllister Eric Black Mickey Adams Iain Dowie Chris Coleman Aidy Boothroyd Of these, the only two I'd even give consideration to...

my vote would be Gordan Strachan or Dennis Wise

I'd be delighted if we could get Dennis Wise. Strachan - no way.

    Gary mac?

Gary McAllister was a great player and a top bloke. Absolutely awful manager sadly.

A bit odd that Blackwell doesn't appear in this. As someone old enough to remember Dean Holdsworth as a player I'm very surprised he has made it as a manager. Always came across as a total rogue who lacked discipline.

CET: On thorn sacking, Thorn Speaks

Wish him all the best. He wasn't a good manager and this is the right decision but doesn't mean people have to be celebrating that someone has lost their job. He leaves with his dignity intact.
