EFL to end season this week - City likely to be promoted

Can see them trying to ring fence the top 2 divisions but PL are aware that TV audiences/income need a "carrot and stick". Or else you get December/Jan and half the games remaining become pointless from there on in. Then they're only showing games from the top half of the PL and bottom half lose...

Sunderland preaching fiscal responsibility - beggars belief. Team practicing Bryan Richardson economics for past 5 or so years.

Old pals act with Samuel going back to his days at the FA. Samuel going to interview the likes of Andy Holt for an alternative viewpoint? Doubt it!

EFL to end season this week - City likely to be promoted

Still don't get how some of these chairman can go on about "fairness and sporting integrity" but admit some teams will have to "give up" for financial reasons. There's your uneven playing field with clubs that have money/external resources having an unfair advantage over others because of the...

Coventry MPs have asked numerous questions in Parliament re: SISU, ground etc. Got us nowhere. Just pandering to their electorate

But then Bristol Rovers are closer to Tranmere than they are to the current top 6 - so then they could just as easily be counted as a relegation side as a promotion side :)

EFL to end season this week - City likely to be promoted

good article. No sympathy for clubs that have "remortgaged the house" to chase promotion. There are no guarantees. I'd have played out the season if it could have been done by the end of June but just doesn't work past there. All you're doing is "kicking the can down the road". Receiving...

Sure Tranmere can come up with a statistical case for us being promoted straight into the PL from League 1 :)

following the point about 21 days notice does this mean it's 21 days from when the EFL board posted the options last week or 21 days from tomorrow?

exactly allowed to start "pre-season"which needs to be at least 4 weeks. Then you've got at least 5-6 weeks of games including play-offs. Takes everyone past normal start of next season. So you've got EFL clubs going into a ridiculously long season as won't be time for a break between 2 seasons.

Ah the Tranmere approach. Hope enough clubs go into admin and have to take pt deductions. How any real football fan could want to see clubs go bust - unbelievable jeff!! Any League 1 clubs go under before the end of this season and the blood is on the hands of the likes of MacAnthony and his...

EFL to end season this week - City likely to be promoted

getting ridiculous. Players would need testing. A month to get players ready - then a minimum of 5 weeks to complete regular season games plus 10 days/2 weeks for play-offs. Takes you well past normal start time for next season. (into middle of August) so little or no time to prepare for next...

EFL to end season this week - City likely to be promoted

yep. training counts as work so that's why clubs like Accrington & other non-big budget clubs aren't keen on returning.

EFL to end season this week - City likely to be promoted

So (according to transfermarkt) 185 out of 621 registered league 1 players are out of contract June 30th. Say 30%. Plus technically all loanee contracts finish May 31st- nearly 100 players. Championship around 25% out of contract with another nearly 100 loan contracts. some currently would be...

got no chance of suing individual clubs. Clubs instructed by EFL to vote. Can't get sued for how they vote. Or if a club is forced into admin due restart do they sue Peterborough & others that voted to resume?

General rule is both sides going into a civil case believe they are onto a winner based on legal advice. So 50% of the time legal advice must be wrong :)

That's key for me. Why would sides with nothing to play for want to extend player contracts etc.? They'll just put in reserve/youth players. No difference in fielding weakened sides for financial reasons if players can't be forced to play if they have Covid related concerns.

sure clubs opposed to return could come up with a different set of numbers. Kieran MacGuire (who goes through every club's finances) came up with a figure of 500k. Big difference to struggling clubs who can't balance their books by selling a "Toney".
