Do you want to discuss boring politics?

News that a Tory MP has been stabbed. Totally unacceptable and I hope the MP makes a quick and full recovery.

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Last time they hadn't had a referendum where immediately after they voted to stay the govt backtracked massively on the promises made to them and turned into a conversation about what it meant for England. Lib Dems were in coalition at the time and at the time they polled well in Scotland. Now...

    Gas and co2 crisis

Not sure why the standing charge needs to increase so massively. If it's the cost of the fuel that's going up it should just be the actual gas/electric going up. Methinks that the companies are using this as an excuse to ramp up prices. Ain't capitalism great!

    Grand Theft Jaffa

Was the guy who stole from your work canteen stealing from a charity? As I believe your point was it is the act of dishonesty that was the problem, not who that dishonest act was against. What if someone who works for a charity uses some of their worktime to do something non-work related that...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

A lot of the same arguments that were used for Brexit. Do not underestimate what a bit of jingoistic tubthumping can do.

    Grand Theft Jaffa

It's not like I'm saying he should have just been left off. A final warning would have been suffice IMO. How many people here have taken something from office supplies for personal use? What about other acts of dishonesty like lying? Would even the smallest white lie be worthy of immediate...

    Grand Theft Jaffa

Considering some of the stuff other officers have got away with getting sacked for not paying for a couple of packs of Jaffa Cakes seems a bit extreme. Needed reprimanding, but I don't think it's sackable if it's a first offence.

    Weight and working out

First glance I thought you'd written intermittent farting! It'd be one hell of a wind problem if you could lose weight by letting rip!

Something along those lines isn't a bad place to start, but as people like yourself will point out it's highly likely costs would increase massively as a result and politically that's not going to do well for them short-term and so they'll avoid it. Not to mention the diplomatic consequences...

People have made the point that some of that for China etc is for consumption abroad. They are currently the workshop of the world so they will create more emissions but that is driven by consumption. If people don't buy the shit, they won't make it. In that respect I would imagine the U.S...

There can be an element of that and some will indeed try to 'big up' their own role in it, but it may well be a small part of a much wider effort to achieve the overall aims.

Certainly the war sped up the process of getting women the vote. But let's say the suffrage movement hadn't occurred pre-war and they hadn't campaigned to get the vote. Do you think that without it WWI alone would have got women the vote?

But until either what they want occurs or the protest group disbands it's impossible to say if they have failed or not. The suffragettes 'failed' for over 20 years before they got what they wanted. There were people campaigning to leave the EU from the moment we joined and were unsuccessful...

But if people aren't talking about getting Britain insulated then the government won't be arsed to make it happen. It'd be a big cost for them and they're going to avoid spending wherever they can. It's step one on the ladder to success. Going back to the suffragettes all their protests pre...

    Coronavirus Thread (Off Topic, Politics)

I used to be able to book online and then last year the option disappeared. Dunno if they were having problems with it or it was being misused but I found it worked brilliantly and I'm gutted the option is gone.

    Coronavirus Thread (Off Topic, Politics)

I agree. There's things that beforehand I'd have had to book an appointment for and take time out whereas now those things can be covered in a quick ten minute phone call. I think the point is that it appears some GP's are having these conversations and then rather than getting them to go to...

Sure they didn't say FC Kolon and it was just instructions on which way round they went?

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

As I've said before politicians should be the early adopters of rules they make and should be expected to uphold them to the highest degree. Instead they ride roughshod over them or make themselves exempt entirely. If you're not going to follow the law you should have no place in making them.

Of course it's not but does that mean we should just ignore it? China could say it's not just a Chinese issue. America could say it's not just a U.S. issue and so nothing gets done. Economies that are doing well as things stand don't want to change that. Those that aspire to that don't have the...
