Grimes would slot in well alongside Sheaf. He’s not a dynamic 8 but he’s better at dictating play from the CDM position than we have today. In our current formation I don’t think we can have a very attack minded 8. It leaves the midfield unbalanced alongside COH, Tats, Wright.

Robins said after the match last night that he wanted to make another sub but didn’t have the player on the bench to enable that. Looking at the bench I think it was probably another wide player that Robins wants. Both Tats and Hadji looked tired in the last 15 but we had no options to replace

I think it’s fairly simple …. We have to persevere with Simms who has greater potential and offers more physical attributes to occupy defenders. We also need to bring in another forward as it is clear Goddens best days are behind him. In defence of both players one of the things I love about...

I do think our strikers are struggling to adapt to our new system and style of play but Simms has the attributes to make that transition. I don’t think the system explains Goddens ineffectiveness. He was the same for much of last season when we played a very different way.

It was very telling today that every time one of our midfielders or wide players looked up Godden wasn’t a credible option. He can’t run behind, difficult to hit with a cross given his relative height compared to central defender, and he struggles to keep up with play when we break with pace. I...

I thought Sheaf had a good match. Not at his best but played a captains role.

Godden … anonymous Allen …careless Da Silva…. exposed Tats, Palmer, Wright and Thomas all performed well. Matt Grimes would slot into our midfield perfectly !

I think any material investment will be in players of an age where they can improve and be sold on again. However that doesn’t apply to every transfer. Brighton spend big money on young talent but then add the likes of Milner, Wellbeck, Lallana …. I think we are trying to emulate that model

Robins won’t give up on Simms that quickly, nor should he. we need an 8 and cover out wide as priorities

I did say that we tried. West Brom were happy to sell because of their financial challenges. His wages were a big issue for West Brom and too high for Cov. He needed a pay off to move on ….
