I personally wouldn't follow a 12/14/18 week training plan out of a magazine or internet article. Too much of a jump in mileage too soon. To go from running the odd 5km and 10km each week, to regular 30 mile weeks within 3 months....... you might get away with it if you're particularly well...

Is it Manchester you're dong? So thats April next year? Start now. Not 14 weeks before. Start getting out and running easy pace, regularly........ slowly building up the time you spend on your feet. Once you can get out, as you say, 4 times a week for a reasonable amount of time, then can...

Personally i think those kind of guides are ok for up to half marathon. 5km up to half marathon have similar training principles. But there's such a difference to then go up to marathon, to almost make it a different sport. If you're doing 10km in 52mins then it would be very impressive to go...

Did the Snowdon Uphill race on friday night. All a bit of an anti-climax really. Weather was so bad that the race finished halfway up, rather than going up to the summit. And rightly so.... the wind was atrocious, a crosswind that you had to fight against to stay in a straight line. Finished...

Top Moments in the Footballing Wilderness

1st game in 3rd division. Absolutely roasting..... couldn't move on the terrace. 1-0 up inside 10 minutes and City fans singing "we'll never play you again" Although our best moment 2001-2018 was probably beating Manchester United in front of 11500 away fans..... reminding a few people...

He makes a couple of valid points about depth/standard in club competition.... But he's all over the place with that comment. 30mins for 5 miles and 60mins for 10 miles aren't remotely comparable anyway. I suspect he well knows this. He should take a trip over to Podium at Leicester...

Thats bullshit. I've never broke 60mins for 10 miles (although i'm racing a 10 miler in November and hope to be thereabouts). I agree they are good club benchmarks (although 30 for 5 miles is certainly easier than 60 for 10), but they aren't the be all and end all.... i've known guys running...

Partly agree with this. The depth is not as strong..... there's no way i should be making the Cov Godiva 12-Stage team, let alone the 6-Stage. However the quality is still there..... i'm going to the Loughborough BMC Grand Prix in a couple of hours and that is stacked with good runners...

4 minutes between sets. Its 4km hard work, which is fairly typical for a summer session (in the winter we're more likely to be doing 4-5 miles of work in longer reps) Of course, the fact that its generous rest times and a relatively shorter session means the reps are expected to be of good...

We had a track session at Godiva..... absolute ordeal. 5 sets of (2 x 400mtrs with 1 minute rest between) The 2nd 400 to be 4 seconds quicker than the 1st (general idea being the first rep is at your 3k pace, and the 2nd rep at 1500mtr pace) Was ok for three sets.... then everything just...

I was 2nd counter for Warwickshire at the UK Inter-Counties today. No complaints, i felt i had a decent run, but my team mate just outran me fair and square. Hope to redress the balance (with interest) at the Snowdon Uphill a week on friday. Not seen any results yet, but we'll be well down...

Nice one.... Yeah its going well. I had a period of a couple of years where i couldn't break 18mins for 5km, but dropped down to 17:50 last summer, then down to 17:19 in March. Coming off the fells in a few weeks to spend some substantial time working on my 5km time, with a view to getting...

Saturday sees me travel up to the Yorkshire Dales to run for Warwickshire in the inter-counties mountain running champs. Really hard for a "flat" county like Warwickshire to compete against the likes of Cumbria, Yorkshire, North Wales, West Of Scotland, etc. Last year we had a reasonable team...

How is your running going? Seem to remember you were low in the 17's for 5km?

Ah right..... yes they were on Yorkshire/Pennine fells. Terrain/elevation does make such a difference. I did the Coventry Way Ultra (40 miles) in under 7hrs...... then a similar distance (45 miles) on the Lake District fells...... 17.5hrs

That appears on the face of it be a very good time..... i've done quite a few ultras, including a couple with similar stats ( i think 33 miles and perhaps 5000ft, and never got anywhere near that time..... granted they were in winter)
