Don't even think young players need a rest. They just need to be allowed to play shit now and again, because the good ones will learn from it. We're not getting promoted this year. Much better to get 3 million for Bayliss in the summer than 1 million now just to get a couple of journeymen...
Doyle injured our best midfielder, chased some shadows, and then hoofed a couple of long balls to nowhere. That you rate his 15 minutes a 7, the same as Kelly's, is ridiculous.
Anonymous? Do you think Kelly carried that entire central midfield on his own? A 'Tidy workman like performance today' doesn't equate to carrying a L1 midfield against a top half L1 team. Which central midfielder are you undervalueing?
Wasn't tidy or workman like. Absolute battle first half and then took control of the match 2nd half. Got whacked by Doyle's most significant contribution and then stuck his bleeding head on a couple more vital clearances. Does the work for 2 and wins the ball to allow Bayliss to win matches...
Worked his nuts off until the final whistle. Misplaced a pass or two first half though, so would drop him if we can't get 500k from Bristol Rovers next week.
Fuck me these match threads have turned toxic. Just 2 or 3 people reaffirming their confirmation bias. Southend are here to work hard for a point. Our young team are the only ones trying to play football but are struggling to break their deep defence down. Chaplin should have done better with a...
If Thomas is out, Zain Westbrooke into the more advanced midfield position and move Bayliss to the right. I don't think Kelly has enough to his game to play higher in midfield at this level and certainly don't want to go back to 2 DMs.
* I thought Bayliss and Chaplin were ok yesterday. Chaplin should have been played through on goal at least twice in the first half but Hiwula was brought down and Thomas ignored a simple reverse pass to him.
* Bayliss didn't play especially well but was part of a midfield that dominated a...
It's been as good a performance as could be expected on the back of our run. Hiwula bringing much more energy up front, playing higher up the pitch as a team, fullbacks getting forward, trying to play football. Loads of positives without being too incisive.
We look a lot more dangerous when we get our creative players onto the ball 35 yrds out instead of 60 yards out and expecting them to carry the ball 30 yards each time.
Set up looks better so far. Trying to pass it after a couple of long balls in the first two minutes. Shipley has won a couple of corners so far but not much point in these floaty corners when we've barely got a player over 6ft. Got to whip these in.
Odd squad again today and like last match more questions than answers.
4-4-2 or 4-3-3? Shipley on the left or central? Bayliss back to the middle? How will the strikers line up together?
I'm guessing Thomas back to the right, Shipley on the left and Mason back in to give us some pace down the left.
