    Dog Ownership

Nothing I can really add to this, except don't forget to keep any expensive footwear tidied away. Mine likes a chew on TV remotes and baseball hats too. It's basically like having young kids again, except dogs are more likeable. 😁

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

So, as a mid-level seat-warmer in the financial industry for a good few years now, I've got to say that disclosing a customer's personal information without their permission is a sackable offence. Even if they are a complete wanker. If it was me I would have just said that he no longer meets...

    MOT Expired

Who needs a calendar when you can have a friendly policeman pull you over to make you aware. 😁 In the old days you'd just get a 7-day "producer" to show your MOT and insurance certificate at the station. No computers then! It felt like I got pulled so many times when riding bikes that I...

    MOT Expired

You can't, in a nutshell. But you can tax it just before the MOT runs out. If you sort out an MOT it'll appear within a day on the system I think, and you'll then be able to tax it. You have to pay for the whole month though, so doing it at the start of the month is a better idea financially...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Not many people are running historic vehicles as everyday runabouts. Plenty of people of relatively limited means, but who won't hit the in-benefit criteria, are running old bangers that aren't ULEZ compliant. If the numbers were genuinely tiny, then paying them to take them off the road...

You could be right mate, and I'd hate to become a right wing mouthpiece, especially as I'm not getting the going rate for it. 😁 But I think there's a fair amount of justified concern personally, and ignoring it is the wrong approach. Here's the local council (Tory) survey, with some figures...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

I honestly, and politely, think that's a misunderstanding. A lot of people, even in that part of the world, are struggling but still need their cars. A lot of them won't have the confidence, time, or funds to to change from one old banger to another. They're going to resent bring forced into...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

There's a lot to be said for that mate, and that approach. I love cars and bikes, but there are more important things in life than having a shiny new one, at least to me. Maybe I'd feel different if I was better off! That said, keeping an old motor on the road feels like a full time job sometimes!

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure your motor is lovely, and keeping old cars on the road is arguably a very green policy. But at that age it might be heading for an expensive fix at some point, so might not be an ideal solution for everyone. Also, as demand rises, so do prices - our old (ULEZ...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Stepping away from ULEZ for a moment, but on a related thread, it just seems obvious to me that we have to move to an economic system that puts the environment at its centre. It is utterly bizarre that we're actively, deliberately wrecking the planet because we can't "afford" to do things...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Spent a few good nights in the SU at Brunel, but that was a long time ago. Getting into the centre of London was a long old ride on the tube, but a bit like Coventry it was even more painful if you were heading to an adjoining borough because much of the transport was radial (designed to get...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

The very poorest, those on benefits can get scrappage, £2000. Might be tricky to get a reliable ULEZ compliant motor for that, but regardless that excludes a very large proportion of working families who are already struggling and need their car for work and other purposes. Whether you accept...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

I used to live and work in this part of London. It's suburban, but it's not all posh and wealthy by any means. Not everyone there works in the City, and there's a fair proportion of stretched lower and middle income people and families who rely on having a car and can't afford to just replace...

    MOT Expired

They are, but I don't think they're used for driving offences like this, mostly to discourage and prosecute bilking, I suspect. I'd probably done 10,000 miles before I got pulled...

    MOT Expired

Fwiw I got pulled a few years ago, driving without a MOT. By a traffic car with ANPR on the M42/A42, unless it's changed since then I don't think regular response cars have ANPR fitted, but I could be wrong. It was a genuine mistake, and it was a good six months out of date (I genuinely thought...

Feckin' Coutts. They won't let me bank with them either. They say it's because I haven't got 3 million in my current account, but I think it's really because I was in the same room as Tony Benn, once.* Cancelled. Waah! *This is actually true, though admittedly it was also with a few hundred...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

It's gone way beyond selections for Starmer, he's clearing the party of the left wherever possible. Do you genuinely think Corbyn would have deselected a popular, effective, but right-leaning mayoral candidate, already in post, and with a very substantial majority. Starmer actually just did...
