Who is the victim of this crime lads? The Sunderland fans in the immediate vicinity? Can you explain to me what the harm is that they have suffered?

Let's talk about that then is my point

Too much arguing about ruining life or not

How hard is it for every poster to say what. Discussing scumbag. I think this would be appropriate _________

Well its already been mentioned. Evo mentioned a Shef Wed fan who got 200 hrs community service and a 12 week suspended sentence.
I think that plus a stadium ban would be appropriate

Edit - and a fine

I'm not saying you are however I'm just saying some people are saying that he is just young....probably most would not feel the same if he was in the Sunderland section showing photos of a tragic incident to a poor innocent child from our fanbase

I'd feel exactly the same. I would think it was a really scummy thing to do.

I would also expect a proportionate punishment.

Some have and I got no issue with that. FP however for example is having a nightmare and is letting himself down unfortunately

S5 public order
Malicious communications (but that would be hard as would be too many victims and not a specific victim)
The Sheffield Wed fan got charged with harassment causing alarm or distress I think. He'd printed the picture out (showing premeditation) and didn't show any remorse for recognition of what he'd done.

I think the point that has been made is Sunderland fans are also guilty of a public order offence with their tragedy chanting

Who are those Sunderland fans? Did they know the child? Did the family and friends of the child see the message due to media attention?

It will be considered a grossly offensive communication, which is a criminal offence, and I guess most people would agree that's fair enough in this situation.

I don't know about ruining someone's life, but people have to accept the consequences of their own actions. There's no-one else to blame.

Not sure how anyone can disagree with this

Every time some cretin from any club shows a photo of that poor young lad as a point scoring exercise it boils my piss and I can only imagine the pain the family feel as a result .

The chants are equally unacceptable also from any fan base including our own but a single fan , whatever age , should be harshly punished . Minimum 10 year ban and some sort of community work working with families dealing with bereavement of their children perhaps ??

What rivalry with Sunderland?

Disgusting behaviour and hope that inbred Cnut gets found out in your crowd.
We have a rivalry (apparently) going back to the 70's and it lives on in their fan base, most of whom wernt even alive then, its a long long story, (and quite boring) if you really want to know DM me and ill let you know. But im off to bed now.

P.s, do you guys still back your manager, or is it time for a change?

It's not relevant as this would fall under the realm of a public order crime - offenses where the behavior is prohibited to enforce social norms, morals, or public interest rather than to protect an individual(s) from harm.

These are the sentencing guidelines based on what the Sheffield Wed fan was charged with

Asking who the victim is is to ascertain the level of harm. The victim can't be anybody that wasn't in the vicinity surely? It certainly can't be somebody that has seen it on the internet.

I think the issue is with the Sunderland fans in question is that they were in the act of a public order offence at the time of the picture being shown.

You can't really pretend to be grossly offended by a picture mocking the death of someone whilst simultaneously singing songs which mock the death of someone

Using a dead child to try to wind up opposition fans is borderline psychopathic, this kid is going to face some pretty drastic consequences, and for what? Did it give him a brief endorphin kick to Google a photo of a dead child then hold it up to a bunch of people he'll never see again?

Utterly contemptible and he'll regret it for a long time to come.

I think our supporters would be best off agreeing that this is a terribly shitty thing to do and leave it at that

The lad will be sanctioned and rightly so
As I posted earlier this gif really needs to be taken under consideration by some!

Oh fair enough, I've looked that up. Probably unlikely to be anything more than a fine and a conditional discharge

Anyway to be clear and not represented by a snide like cc4l

What the lad did was wrong and he should receive whatever sanction is applicable under law and under the conditions of entry to the football ground

It is disgusting. But it's one stupid young lad.

Their songs about about Jimmy Hill, Bobby Robson and Gary Speed are also disgusting and had a lot more participants so I'll take no moral high ground from them cunts
I wouldn’t take the moral high ground from anyone full stop, a good proportion of their fan base & no doubt ours as well are giving it fist pumps when brown kids are drowned in the channel.
It’s got nothing to do with compassion.

Causing Harassment alarm and distress would be a public order offence, which is different to a harassment, which needs to be a cause of conduct. So I assume he would have been charged with either a S5 or a S4 public order offence as opposed to a harassment as it was not a course of conduct.

Boring law meanings but it is clouded by the use of harassment in both crimes but them being different crimes, if that makes sense

It's the intent that's the important thing.

I'm not having anything to do with the faux-outrage from people happy to revel in someone's death, but that's not really the point.

The club need to act swiftly and harshly on this I'm afraid. Idiotic thing to do and it will be a police matter too. We were all baying for blood after the Kasey Palmer incident because SW have previous and I'd hate for our fanbase to get a similar reputation.

Sunderland fans already consider our fans scum due to social media about an event 50 years ago and their Idiots shouting at a statute and threatening to smash a memorial garden made it worse. It was really intimidating outside there after the play off semi and this kind of thing will only make it worse.

Minimum banning order, community service and a personal apology, but think the club needs to do something too. I think someone suggested reaching out directly to the family and a charitable donation, that would be a good start.

What Sunderland fans think of us is not really relevant either way

The issue with Sheffield Wednesday was how many people victim blamed.

Completely agree. And that is why I'm not fully on board with the string him up brigade for what appears to be something not preplanned.

The Sheffield Wednesday one had intent, evidence by the fact it was printed out in advance.

This to me looks like a disgusting act, done in a moments stupidity

Yoh missed context. It does matter, not about the incident but this stupid rivalry means families (on both sides) get intimidated and possibly worse simply trying to a game of football. It needs to end, it's pathetic and usually by young adults. We're not in thst time any more and escalating incidents increase tge risk of someone being seriously hurt at a future match.

What I really want to know is how’s the lad getting any 5g on his phone to do a Google search when my phone doesn’t even work for about an hour before an after the game up there!?

In all seriousness though, what goes through peoples heads thinking this type of thing is acceptable. Deserves any ban that is likely to come his way.

Someone that attacks a family at a football match was going to do it anyway, regardless of what someone did across the segregation

And you dont think building tension like this will escalate that?

Regardless of what happens now, this will be all over their message boards, X and Facebook in advance of the return game, regurgitated by those stirring the pot and someone else will do something 'stupid in the moment' unplanned, later regretted, but all whipped up by faux outrage online. Incidents like this continue to build that hatred, make the division larger. I follow City all over tge country and spend thousands every year, like many others do. Im passionate, I love my club, but it is still only a game.

explain ‘faux outrage’ if you will?

is it a thing now that people can’t be completely disgusted by something like this without being called out for it? has the world seriously got this woke?

Just for completeness, I've used the same description in my post, but im in no way referring to this particular incident, purely coincidental use of the term.
