Transfer Rumour Summer Transfer Window 2026 (17 Viewers)

Absolutely spot on.

You certainly do remember right. Every player was supposed to have been a waste of money. No consideration was given to the players getting used to getting up to speed in the Championship or getting used to the system they would be playing.

How about last season? Our squad wasn't supposed to be good enough. We kept our best players and had a good squad, but half of our squad wasn't supposed to be good enough. The same people who do it each time went quiet when we started winning games and went top......

Then we got hit with injuries to our best players at the same time as the virus ripped through our squad and we also had 6 games where we had suspensions in our defence. We were supposed to have thrown it all away. As usual no consideration was given to what was going on. Middlesbrough were going to win the title, Ipswich come second and we were going to be lucky to still reach the playoffs.

Some of us spoke about how this place would be if we didn't start winning games quickly this season, but nobody guessed it would happen as quickly as after our 1st game away to Arsenal.

I've tried to make a comprehensive list of CCFC transfrer & loan deals this summer, most of it was on the BBC transfer pages but they missed Brau, Markelo & Broad. Have I missed anything?

That young lad who's dad was a rugby player for COVID?

Ref Daily Mail the chief sports writer has failed to mention Cov City during our promotion season and subsequent entry to the Prem.
See you nxt Tuesday.
Got the feeling he is that sort. Often a difficult read. Mostly a quick scan at best.

Great signing for Orient that.

Feel a bit sorry for Dovin having to drop to L1 though when I'm sure he was eyeing PL football (or other euro top league) when he joined, but that's football I guess.

Playing for Orient, Dovin will be busy in goal soon find out if he's back to his best.

I think you've nailed the standards. I think you've also nailed the eggs in one basket situation unfortunately.

It was the signing of Pinnock which rang alarm bells for me re. this point.

I physically don't see how any club would willingly give a 3+1 year contract to a 33 year old unless they were up against a wall with regards to missed targets and just had to commit, or risk missing out again.

What I would say is hopefully we're in a position that even in the event that we do go down we're not left with a mountain of crap which we can't move on.

I'm sure we'll be fine if we go down, after all we've been so safe that we've kept most of the players that got us promoted in the first place, plus added a few more decent ones. The worry i suppose is that 3 go down, so i hope the other 2 aren't better positioned than us.

The activity at the end seemed panicked to me. What this means about the rest of it, I don't know.

At this point the manager has to get the most out of the team. Players have to earn their place based on more than their transfer fee, but equally sure-start players are not undroppable this season either. Everyone needs to fight for the shirt.

If we are going to have any chance of staying up we need to be ruthless on team selection and tough on the pitch. If we go down then I want to see us put up a fight, which we haven't seen so far unfortunately.

Echo that.

Such a sensational season last season and I think we should continue to ride on the crest of that.

As long as we win a few games here and there and don't break the record for the fewest wins/points ever, I will be quite happy

Expecting us to lose pretty much every week, so any win will be a bonus.

Let's just bask in the sun a little bit longer .

Spot on as usual Otis, when fans of other clubs say, "you're going straight back down" I say don't give a damn after the last 25 years that we've had, just going to enjoy the ride.

Whatever will be will be where in the Premier League.

So when are all the amazing free agents signing for?
Weird they didn't do a "concluded our business" and transfer window roundup. I'm not looking into it too far, just putting it down to shit comms rather than a few free agents at Ryton.

Last 2/3 season the comms has gone poor. Less match updates, less news via social media.

The only improvement has been unseen.

Me too. I think we had pinned all hope on Tomori and then got let down so went and bought any old LCB instead

I think for any that go down it's a bit of a clean slate job to be honest.

All of our / all of their star players will go so really it boils down to the summer recruitment and how well new additions complement the existing squad left over.

As you say if all of our star players go we've still got a pretty good foundation in place to work from.

Nah, we would have known early that Tomori wasn't coming here.

He was never coming here.. a month ago we were all dreaming of a team with Openda, RLC, Tomori and Mudryk. In the end we didn’t sign a single player of that ilk, and that’s not a criticism of our business.. just proves 99% of rumours are utter bollocks

or that we were chasing them and couldnt obtain them?

Disagree. He was clearly left short of what he wanted last summer too, both on the wings and in the middle of the pitch.

We've been left short after every window for years. Theres always someone else we could really have done with.

When the accounts are published next year we'll see how close this is. Not a million miles away, I'm sure.

They will show £120 million as that is how the accounts are displayed

We'll see the wages, the extras probably, the tv income, we'll be able to deduce a lot from that.

Eh? The player transfers are shown as an individual line item. They will be the amount that the club are liable to pay which will be the amounts we have seen shown. The amortisation elements will then break this down as the headline transfers include that.

I know you said the club would only spend £40 million but if that was the case the upfront spend would be £10 million

I think like many on here you need to go on a course to understand how finances actually work

I'm not trying to say that at all but no I didn't say £40m, I thought around £50m or so net. I was wrong on that. When bullshit gets repeated so often by stupid people it gets accepted as fact. The forum gets dominated by group thinking.

I'm trying to explain why we are where we are after the window.

What have we spent up front? Maybe £40m tops, I guess. Wages will be £55-60m I expect, bonuses and add ons about £15m, that'll be the lowest in the division or thereabouts. So that's the tv money all accounted for and that goes a long way to explaining the limitations the club is working within. The average spend across the PL is north of £3bn so that's £150m per club. It really shows the uphill battle we face.

You said this we have spent from a financial evaluation £120 million in transfers

We do need to improve the direct ball and timing from the CBs/DMs to the forward line. Skip the central midfield on more occasions than not. We will not be playing through many PL centre midfields very often.
Very much in agreement here.

All of these 5ATB formation variations suggested throughout different threads on here with Pinnock and Thomas as the outside CBs in front of Onyeka and Yirenkyi, who's hitting that direct ball over the top? And before 18yo Mfuni gets suggested, I'd rather Grimes have some more time to figure it out.

Playing completing under siege every game is just as perilous as playing wide open. Gotta have a chance to get one against the run of play before parking the bus.

The issue with constantly parking the bus or being under siege is exactly what happened to England against Argentina in the world cup. You get no momentum and give the whole impetus of the game to the opposition

The voice of reason, as always.

Right but we don’t have Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham up front

OK thanks, so just an opinion then and nothing with any real source behind it.

He’s definitely got a source for it as he’s done 3 or 4 long-form write ups on Cov this year. I have my suspicions that it’s Lampard; I think @shmmeee thought it was Austin. It’s someone fairly senior.

Think England Ghana rather than England Argentina for the right example.

To be honest I’ve never known anything like this window. Possibly the greatest achievement the club has ever had and some on here have done nothing but whine about who we haven’t got and how we’re doomed. Ridiculous targets thrown about every day, ridiculous demands in terms of spend, ridiculous expectation based on nothing, huge disrespectful dismissal of anyone who wasn’t new. We might not be good enough and we might well go down. That was always the case.

After 2 games, what’s worrying me more is the formation, style and mindset. We are clearly playing in fear and trepidation because we’ve moved up. Whether half of this is because we’re not good enough, time will tell. Let’s see how it’s looking after 10 games. FL needs to tweak something. We are better than we’ve shown. What is our style? Do we want possession based or not, attack or counter. What is it? That and mindset is the problem.

This is where FL needs to earn his crust.
