Transfer Rumour Summer Transfer Window 2026 (17 Viewers)

Agree, although it was hard to judge against the opposition it wasn't really a negative performance at all.

Would have liked us to have put him through a bit more as he did make a couple of good runs.

We've been guilty of that for a number of seasons. I like to watch striker's movement off the ball and on several occasions last season Simms or Wright would make really good runs off their marker and our ponderous play would just ignore it or totally miss the timing all together.

If anyone wants cheering up, don't read this...

"You need goals to stay up in the Premier League, so who do you turn to? Nottingham Forest’s fourth-choice striker? Sure, he’ll do. Yeah, we’re not entirely convinced Awoniyi, scorer of six goals in the past two seasons, is the man to fire Coventry to survival. He netted 11 in 30 in 2022-23 and clearly knows where the net is when he is fully fit, but it is asking a lot for him to transform his fortunes in front of goal in a struggling team."

sometimes the reality check from others does make me question why we've signed certain players, def cherif, but im optimistic!

ignore them they are clearly bedwetters

Tchaouna ranked 2nd worst signing in the whole league by a neutral observer but it’s just the boo boys who aren’t happy with the deal 🤔

Do people really pay much attention to those though? That has Dan Bentley as a better deal than Callum Wilson to Brentford on a free.

I'd rather give it 10 games and watch against different opposition to at least get a bit of an idea.

Can't understand the negative comments about this guy. I think he has done more than okay from what I have seen
Even if you think he's not worth the money, which you can't know yet, the solution isn't to throw toys out the pram and throw Sakamoto in on vibes. Too weak and too slow. Makes us even worse, as he did the other day, as well as costing us a point.

Is it not ok to say you simply have no idea if Cherif is going to be good or not.

For the fee, I didn’t see anything at Plymouth that gave me new confidence that he was definitely going to be good enough, or a difference maker. He didn’t do anything I wouldn’t necessarily expect of a young player in a Championship squad. On that level, I can’t see why you would call the cameo promising.

But in the length of time he was on the pitch, I equally have no new concerns about that either. A first appearance, not integrated in the squad, still finding fitness. I didn’t see any early warning signs either.

So I just don’t know yet, which is the same position I had on the day he was signed.

What is reasonable to say, is that it appears quite a speculative transfer with a possible very high ceiling, but equally an unknown and possibly low floor. Feels relatively high risk given the percentage of our budget deployed. I’d say the same about Tchouana too, and to a much lesser degree, Yerinkyi, though I am already edging up what I thought was the floor there.

Amenda came with a stronger profile (I thought) and he’s the one I’m most confident with be PL standard, though obviously not totally certain yet. Whether he can be elite, I have no idea but wouldn’t rule it out. I’m hopeful.

There’s nuance I think, just like when expressing a view that the transfer window appears to have weakened us compared to Ipswich and Hull. It’s not necessarily hostile, or unsupportive or definitive, just an honest assessment subject to revision.

You're missing the point.

Every season we have the same people saying our new players are shite or the squad isn't good enough, but since we landed in L2 we've finished higher than the season before except for the season where we nearly got to the FA cup final.

You'd have thought by now that they would wait and see how good/poor our players/squad are before they have a chance to settle in.

I don't think the '£20m deal' from Fabrizio Romano helps. He also said the Rushworth deal was £30m for context. Tchaouna probably cost about £15m. He will do better for us than he did for Burnley.

The good thing is, he looks like the kind of player that would tear up The Championship.

It’s a shame would could not get rid of a few.

Wolf stealing a living here. Injury came at just the right time for him…..

Compared to what I've seen other Clubs doing business, we're in for the hardest season we've had in many long years. I don't see the depth of either the two promoted clubs in our squad, and there's no way we're competing with most of the top half of the league with the signings some of them have made. The money spent is ridiculous, Spurs getting Tosin and Mudryk, with the option to buy Mudryk for £75m next year !!! It's not a moan, but we seem to have a naive approach to stopping up from Doug and others, I hope I'm wrong.

EMC is the latest. Constantly making that inside channel run early and we’ve maybe played the ball twice in the last year.

We do need to improve the direct ball and timing from the CBs/DMs to the forward line. Skip the central midfield on more occasions than not. We will not be playing through many PL centre midfields very often.

Spot on, it’s 100% driven by price tag which selling club probably sneaks out/pushes to keep their own fan base happy

I’d add Awoniyi to your examples, first figure…£17m ! Real figure sounds like around £9m

I reckon Tchaouna will be decent: Tried to play one touch a couple of times in wrong areas Saturday although needed other players to be brave and do this more so can’t really complain. Put in a couple of dangerous balls that should’ve led to goals.

Excited to see him, Yirenkyi and Cherif when they’re fully up and running

Glad the window is over so we can focus on the football. I do think we are short in a couple of areas, but I also think results in the first 2 weeks have put a negative spin on what was a decent window IMO. I think the failure to move fringe players on for any decent money has scuppered us making the last couple of signings we needed.

It's now down to Frank and his coaches to find a way of playing that will suit this group of players, which I think will result in him having to drop some of last seasons key men (Grimes the obvious one here). I do think ultimately it will be a slog of a season & we will fall short, but that's not the end of the world & I back Doug to position us to come straight back up, hopefully in a better place.

Lets try and enjoy ourselves & back the lads. Please do not become toxic after everything we as a club have been through.

Agree with everything you have said here. Top post

Exactly my thoughts, well put

I predict Cherif will soon replace Tchaouna as the season's boo boy because of his own price tag, our lack of goals as a team, and his reputation as a bit of a 'beast'. If he hasn't scored 5 goals by end of September, or gets knocked off the ball a couple of times by international defenders or looks a bit uncoordinated when he runs, I think he'll be getting pelters.

Any free agents still out there?
Nervous The Big Bang Theory GIF

I dont think we will sign any, but if we register our squad as 25 we wouldnt be able to register a free agent until January would we?
Correct. We should just not register Woolf and sign Bissouma. Bidwell still here in the Prem is also hilarious.

The free agents list is mocked but there are players on it I'd want in the squad haha

I think its usually mocked in the Champ as the players usually tend to be either way out of your league or completely hopeless. As a Prem club i'd look at some of the top ones 100%.

well that’s never happening is it. We’ve got 3 league games before the end of September and Cherif hasn’t even made a prem matchday squad yet.

What have we spent up front? Maybe £40m tops, I guess. Wages will be £55-60m I expect, bonuses and add ons about £15m, that'll be the lowest in the division or thereabouts. So that's the tv money all accounted for and that goes a long way to explaining the limitations the club is working within. The average spend across the PL is north of £3bn so that's £150m per club. It really shows the uphill battle we face.

Diogo leite, Bissouma, Bennacer, Brozovic, Mahrez, Gurreiro, Zaha, Wijnaldum

All add to our squad, even if the list is a meme on here
